Turned it up for my first mediocre experience at the lake. I guess I was due. I've never had a bad day here. I got out for solid one run and than had to limp my way back as a result of wind completely dropping off. Waited for a few hours if things would pick up again and then headed back to Victoria. Definitely need to keep an eye out on future traffic patterns. Getting stuck in Port Alberni traffic was a real pain in the ass.

Zipped down for some unexpected wind and had a great session at my home spot. The wind was quite clean and steady, the sky was a bit cloudy and dark, and the water was really cold and choppy. All of that added up to a great session indeed. I worked on foot changes in the rough chop as that is the most challenging conditions for me. Unexpected session. Minimal waves and kelp but a patch of wood off Clover. Tried a load of tacks both sides. Didn't complete any but close and felt better at carving hard into the wind after watch Pepe carve a few hard ones. tried one jump and my wing buckled on takeoff. Not enough pressure.
I sense doldrum season. Its been a good summer of wind. Bring on the fall storms.

Wasnt expecting wind today. Fun session with Rupert, John, and Greg. DaBaker heading out for a sunset session and looked to be doing well as I was leaving. Minimal kelp, minimal swell, decent steady wind. Coming closer to the Flaka, almost taxied out of one today. Tacks are turning into a fun habit now, the heelside tack feels so good at speed, my new favorite turn. Great session. Watched paused for a bit near the end.

Arrived early (2pm). Wind was very light (10kts). Rigged the 8m and SAB W1100. Had the bay to myself until Lancer came out on his 7m. Wind picked up and we were both over powered. Took a break and switched to the W945 which was a lot of fun. The Pope showed up, but by the time he rigged, the wind got a bit too light for him. Wind died for a while then picked up again. Went out till 6pm in very nice light wind conditions. All in all, best day in a while. I even made a bunch of gybes.

Pretty good session on the big gear. Shockingly, no eel grass or debris to annoy. Long glides downwind. Really hoping all of this light wind practice on the SUP and big foil pumping translates to more 2-1s this winter surfing. Took the 925 out later just as wind backed to 10-12 knots. Nearly pumped my heart out of my chest and my arms got full of lactic acid before I finally got it on foil. Definitely the lightest wind I've foiled the 925 in; I could barely keep the wing from dropping jibing. Pretty amazing ... (more)

Day trip to Nitinaht turned into another unicorn session at Cowichan Lake. When this is on, it's (IMO) the best place on the south island. Warm, clear, fresh water. Warm wind and the lake to yourself. Suprising good swell develops too!

One of my least noteworthy experiences this summer. Still coming back from a foot injury in Nitinat so being a little careful as well. Had a really hard time in these conditions with the HPS980. On the look for a 1050 again as I'm struggling in softer wind. And this seems to be Ross Bay's signature offering this time of year...lol.. No kite today, lost stoke, foil winds. Started by cooling off & taking a few 110 runs. Filled in. Ramped up. Sun went, dark clouds came. More wind. @end it was super fun hitting the lil ramps, weaving the small wave sets. Better than a good Nat day:) couple of hopeless backie attempts, fun!
Quit a few times only to be motivated by another beer to go again! Sailed til dinner.

That was better than the last couple. Wind felt steady. Small crowd out mixing it up in the swell. Weeds were starting to clear second half of the session. Apologies to ULR for gassing your takeoff! That stinks! Thx for the skinny trial. I like it.

First half was fun, consistent wind, with small swell. Second half was lots of slogging, kelp, and some great swell. Lots of Fbombs being thrown around - I like the passion out there. Oh yeah - a massive sea lion came up and barked at me after i missed a tack. First time for that at RB.

Big swell with very little wind , got tangled in the kelp right off the beach and debris everywhere. Some fun swell rides. Getting a little busy for parking gonna have to start badmouthing this super hard to learn (so dont bother) and dangerous limb slicing , expensive sport with a bunch of car burning localism.
