One of the more challenging days I've had in a while! Gusty/shifty/punchy/sloggy/rippy/loopy/slashy

BWD was throwing some great loops. Me not so much. The guys on 8M and 9M kites had me impressed in that kind of wind!

My arms feel WORKED from the gusty wind and slog/rip cycle.

Too much too early. Tailwalked through the shore break and blew my jibe. Once I got over swallowing some of the finest sea water Vancouver has to offer I sailed back waay downwind and hiked back to the van. Maybe if it was the end of summer and I had my chops up it woulda been fun but I'm just not in top form by the end of march. All in all a pretty impressive display by Mother Nature.

MASSIVE....rollers coming in about 25-30 feet apart. 6 to 8 foot faces. Exceedingly overpowered except for one run out in no wind when Bean and I got totally worked...or at least I did...got the bruises around my hand where I was holding onto the strap at the top of the sail to prove it. Good backside riding...even got some backside air, or was that a launching? Too scared to go frontside. Was pretty happy that I got out the rest of the time through the pounding break, probably 75m of it. Being powere ... (more)

EPIC. One of my top ten sailing days ever. Fully powered from the beach through the break. Giant backside hits on the nicest waves I've seen since Maui. Pozo style port air madness. We all took some savage beatings to go along with it - I'll let Windsurfish tell his story. Unbeleivable spot when it's full on like this. Unbelievable ...

Wow! Today was going off big time!!! Flattened off 4.0 and lot's of bump and jump with good wind swell breaking on the reef. Went to rig and realized I had left my mast on the beach the night before. Bummer! rented a mast for the day and posted some Lost on the beach signs. Was back at the condo crying in my secound beer when the phone rang and some nice girl called Valerie said she had found my mast and would bring it to the beach tommorow. windsurfers are great people everywhere you go!! \life is ... Headed to IV with my small board to work on the fabled water start. Got there just after 5, ~14 knots stayed up for about an hour and a half then completely died. Not quite enough juice to get up, so I just beach started, zoomed out a bit, then ditched and swam in. Big pain in the ass, still fun. Planing a few times, short lived as I didn't want to have to swim in very far. Every time I ride this board I hate the GO more and more, Just need that stupid WATERSTART and I will never touch my GO again!

NICE! Scored the best of the session, shared with an ornery sea lion and the Luksay monster. Can't say I sailed as well as Paul, but some respectable jumps, some OK wave rides and certainly on the right gear. Day two - tomorrow looks like a potential S.P.I.T. day....

Eastside called it. Great session, will take some time to get used to. Nice to try a new place. Had some good backside rides, seems easier here to ride waves, they do not break until they hit shore , so there is plenty of time to ride then jibe. Some workings but that comes with the territory. Indian Dog is back.!!

:D :D :D Great day. Nice big rollers coming into the bay. Got my best frontside ride. 5 footers on occasion I would say. Took awhile to get used to the wave riding from the other direction. Never done that before. The more southerly access seems a little better. The best waves seem to be off this access and the wind was coming in too. Freewave was great, especially the early planing on the inside. Dave S is back.. phoned him early then he slept in....my fault for not phoning him again..... the ... (more)

Waves were not as good today as yesterday but still lots of fun  Played Wailea Blue course in the morning and ended the day after sailing with some cold ones by the pool. Off to the BBQ with a nice steak and a glass of Shiraz!! this retirement thing could be good!!!

Lefties like starboard wave riding! What fun, and what a nice session, only three reaches on the 95 when it started to get a bit holey inside. I think Eastside and Udderreef may still be out there somewhere. Had a fantastic time, although still loopless. Many long wave rides, some decent launches/landings, and thankfully no seroius workings in the unrelenting shore break. What a gem of a spot.

Started out as a spectator, in my own back yard, Taking pics, socializing and watching the action. Now I know why I don't use the access everyone else used, although it would be fine if you could stay upwind. I think that access should be for kites only! Had a newbie wser come down to watch the action and left it all behind to go and sail with Brian in Craig Bay, the flat water CB, but more gusty. This is Parksvilles version of the spit in Comox, flat but sailable even when the tide is out. I expected to ha ... (more)

Conuld have been an epic in my backyard, but I wasn't able to hit it until 12:00 at which time the wind had already backed off. Nevertheless, I am super stoked to have finally made the hike down to the secret spot and see its full potential for Nitinat-like conditions on a big NW. It was blowing 20-25 in the morning for sure. Spent about 30-45 min. working on heli tacks back winding, hoss tacks etc. and generally showing off for the sailboats and power boats. Yeah it is good to be healthy again and good ... (more)

IN YER FACE KUS! San Pariel rocked. Have to learn everything all over again the other direction. Couple of hail mary port forwards, bunch of "not even close" backies and some feeble first attempts at going down the line on starboard. Godd turnout, sun, sand, surf ... I'll be back.

Felt optimistic so went out to JR w/ Evan and EB in the morning. Traded off surf sessions in nice glassy head high sets. Wind came up somewhat around 2:30. Waited and surfed a little more and then by 4:30 it came up for real. Evan rigged 4.7 and was a little under so went back out on 5.4 and was nicely powered. Sets were so few and far between that it was tough to time properly, but if you did it made for great jumping and fs riding. I went out on perfect 5.0. Had some nice rides in the rivermouth an ... That was very very nutty like in the old days when you almost lost your life every session. self launched the 9m thinking " this is going to be a joke" as rvan was harmlessly slogging offshore. then the kite started to twitch and 30 knots hit us with no warning at all. I come in and cant even dump the damn kite in the water its so windy, so wait for rvan to sprint down the beach and save my hide before getting slammed into some driftwood. Holy Crap! Started out with one of these :( and then ended up kind of like this  What was I thinking rigging the 6.0! It all started out very lovely and nice, but then it hit. The wind just kept picking up my sail and board and pushing it over and over in the water while I was swimming and wrestling it into position. Finally made it back to the beach in time to get Mattdogs 9m kite out of the air, and relaunched him on a 7. At this point the waves were getting quite nice. Fun watching him rip up ... (more)

Arrived at 4:30 and couldn't get planing on the 5.0. Rigged the 6.0 and got planing in the gusts. The last hour I was nicely powered up. Waves? Yep. Some nice 4-5 wave sets rolled through every now and then. I couldn't ride them down the Point but caught some nice ones up wind from there. It was light in the break. No jumps but great riding. Got worked a few times.

Sailed till 8:00. Kiter out shredding it up till 8:15, dark.

Tried the twin with the 5.6 and was surprised how well it worked.

Landed 2 sliiiiiiiiiiiidey vulcans, nearly one spock. Almost warm enough to ditch the gloves and hood. Almost.

COOOLD session! Rivermouth was snowmelt and turned my feet into 2 partly thawed steaks that were difficult to stand on. A few really nice waist high sets rolled through. Good to sail with Tom and Shaggy. Did I mention that it was COLD. I need new booties without holes - or could summer just come along already.

gear:OR 10 Rise minus centre strut (overpowered)

Mako with Liqid Force heel staps so da board don't come off!

Luvin the new board :D It planes up fast...got catapulted a few times til I figured that out, goes up wind like crazy, handles chop well, easy to jump and handle in jumps, great in the small waves, smooth in the jibes. Water started out of the straps for the first time. Fin worked well on 4.2 and 5.3. I rigged the 4.2 as it was pretty windy when I got there and the prediction was for more. Of course, it dropped, but I could still plane in the gusts on the 4.2. Nose seems to kind of plow every once in a w ... (more)
