I love that moment when you're in a smooth trough holding that rail in tight with the sail powered and wide open clew first just ready to smack that curling lip. There were lots of those moments today. Steady 5.0 sideshore right to the beach. It was so good I didn't even notice that no one else was there.

:D Good to get out but damn cold, my face felt like I was skiing in Gatineau. Violent arm swinging brought back some blood, then the sun came out and warmed it all up. We are fabricating a thoery to explain the offshore tending wind during cold weather: something like a high level westerly wind layer that shears the underlying southeast layer (could be bullshit). It makes for choppy conditions in shore and the swell doesn't reach shore as well .... Who cares when it's 10 degrees, but when it's cold I deman ... (more)

It looked frikin' grim, as the windline was Waaaaay off-shore. As soon as Paul headed out, the wind filled in - he knows that beach like the back of his clew hand :). Nice session. Ended the session as Matt/Jens arrived for their kiting session. Launched Jens and then drove home for a soak in a nice hot bath!!

Got to Kook in time to see Doc and BWD starting to flounder so I rigged the 5.8. Had a good couple of good runs then schlogged around for a while and finished with a short walk of shame!! The kites came off the water shortly after. Short but felt great to get out on the water...first December sesh  Doc and Dave glad you enjoyed the pizza, Lisa wants partial credit.

Great to be back and finally on the water after a long break. Water is really warm, just had my shorts and 1.5mm top on. Not to crowed on the water a nice space b/w the campground and Baja Joes to play in.

A nice surprise. Came downtown expecting to see 40 knots and 4 degrees and half expected not to sail. It turned out to be prefect for the 4.0 and not too cold at all, once I got through one screaming hand burn. Just me and winddoc for most of it, then Gmac, John and Mark showed up. Winddoc landed a perfect backloop in front of me and was doing some nice shuvits. The swell was perfect near the reefs for some little wave rides. Came in too close a few times and got rolled on the inner reef/rock. The day got e ... (more)

Fantastic session. First time I've seen rideable waves of that size at Kook St. Dave had a couple of great rides (one over the reef) that had me thinking that we were back at Florence. The new Hotrod mast supercharged my Superfreak. Stoked! Snapped the screw on my Evo's rear strap and was forced to use the big board for the rest of the session. Surprisingly the 4.7 and 92 liter board combo felt ok in the high wind. Landed one buttery smooth backloop dry and crashed the rest savagely. Had some good forwards ... (more)

Not what I was expecting. After two hours in the Chateu Luksay garage watching the snow fall and coming to terms with getting skunked on what looked like a sure-thing kinda forecast it finally filled in and we had a good hour of punchy 5.0 with some decent ramps. My stoke was weak and not helped by the fact that something is definitely wrong with my ankle thanks to a bad forward landing a month ago. Still managed a handfull of forwards - including my first attempt at a stalled forward off a nice steep ramp ... (more)

An afternoon of watching snow, dead calm at CB then BOOM. A shortish session, but nice winds, a bit too much for 5.0 at times. A few very good jumps on the reach out, and a few decent rides on the way back. :D Nice to see Bean, Ozzy, Paul and Gene, and to get a decent session in - almost drove home skunked. Suprisingly warm, given it was snowing 30 min before the session. Thanks Paul for the peach strudel and Ozzy for the Coronas!!

THAT is what I'm TALKIN' 'BOUT!

Arrived to Kook to see Grant Watson rigging his 3.3. Rigged the 4.2, launched after watching Grant rip it up for a few runs and had my best Kook session ever. Biggest gusts were in the high 40s with sideways spray and huge swell. One 30 second gust seemed just over 50. The swell I was on literally had mini white caps on the faces of the larger whitecaps on the face of the main swell, AND the spray was blowing off of these mini caps! Again, the upper limit of this sail rocks ... (more)

    wet and salty, and warm!
    4.00 hours
Spent a week in Playa Norte, Los Barriles with family and Emily. Sailed every day, some days were windier than others. Great swell and wind and warm warm water. Still no consistency on vulcans although they are getting better. Learned that uphauling a small board in 5 knots of wind is really really difficult. Those old school freestylers that did railrides etc. must have seriously good balance. Definately a spot to return to.

Felt low on stoke. Dragged myself to the dawnish patrol for the first time with a lack lustre vibe. Wind just got better as my hour session got used up before going to work. Kept thinking "I wonder what Columbia is doing right now?" as I bounced and chattered along disorganised Willows chop. No loops, only small hops and bad slashies. Not a good frame of mind. The 4.2 felt like it could handle way more wind. Never felt overpowered to the point of tailwalking or getting bent out of shape. Very stok ... (more)

Absolutely stable and perfect 5.0-4.5 conditions. WoW!! Decided to stop in and check out the head of Nanoose Bay on the way home. Sure glad I did. Rigged a depowered 5.0 (in case it was holey), but coulda just sailed a 4.5. Excellent freeride blasting ..... Lots of chop/hopping, small jumps, and a lack of current made it a smiles all around kind of day - staying downwind was actually a problem!!!!!!

Could barely walk in with the 5.0. The smallest sail I brought was a 4.5, which was woefully overpowered.... 3.5 woulda done just fine. All reaches involved some sort of walk. :) Nice start to the week. Hit the waves early with BWD. Solid winter wind. Warm too. A few decent 4' sets. BWD showing off some solid backside riding. Conditions felt sort of kooky. Definitely liking IV best on a lower tide. Joined later by Jose and GrantW. Both were ripping it up.

Note on IV tides: things get dicy above 3.0m - lots of ankle breaking logs getting tossed around the beach

Just got blown off the water on a 6.6. Could do with a 5.0 right now. This place is awesome! Hope you are all staying warm in the great white north.

:D Started out flat and fast, then big steep swell appeared out of nowhere. Standing waves on the outside, musta been a big ebb. Steep waves right into shore and a smooth as butter frothy inside. That was awesome! :D

:D sailing in snow, nice :!: Wind came up hard close to dark, backed off, gusted back, repeat. No waves to speak of but fun anyways, focus on not getting wet but actually only face got coolish when sprayed. As it turns out shouldda rigged smaller, strained upper R back in gusts  ouuuch. Slippery as hell in booties, wow, almost donated first the board then the sail to beach riprap  Bitch walking up driveway too

Good to get out since I jammed yesterday @CP

Came to the beach in my drysuit.

It was nice to show up, zip up, and be warm.

JL, Sharkbait, and Penguin showed but the wind died. (for a bit I guess)

    I had fun though. :D

Didn't wear the new helmet. Sand is going to be it's worst enemy. :x
