:) After chasing non-existing wind all over the island, doc and I got back to town just in time for the wind at Willows. Puffy at first but quickly got better. I would have been more comfortable on my 4.0 a lot of the time. The wind was straight onshore again which seems to be the rule this year. Other than that, a fun session that saved the day for everyone who was there. :D

Drove to Nanoose last nite with Wingnut to get the early bird action at CB this morning.
Well, the Early Bird angle didn't play out so well. Long story short, drove back into town to Kook st. 2 Kites out, barely 5.8. Went home reeking of skunk. Unpacked all of the gear. Wingnut went off to Willows and called me for the Evening session. Good thing. OP'd 5.0 on the small stuff 'till dark. Washed off all of the skunk. Looks like we took the long way to Willows!! Finally: Caps in da bay :shock: nobody around, rigging frenzy, then Wingnut, Doc & Vood showed as I tried 4.8, not enough, RF again, 5.3 blasting a bit, couldn't hold on, poorly rigged sail (too lazy to grab right mast :roll: ) & huge board didn't help :evil: Took pix of the heros, then back out w/ 4.8 instantly OP. Willows looked sad so went on to Clover. Started (one fin ding cuz of gusts) & ended lame (barely powered, way down beach), nice waves throughout just no wind to catch'em half the time, but decent fully powered 1.2 hr in the middle though :P Entertained tourists cheering. What happened to ya Giles? Big airs going out, long wave rides coming in, nice :twisted: Figuring out the new Manic, Jesus slow as ever but flew nicely today :wink:

looked at the log and my last bonified session was Jan 29th, no wonder I felt so rusty. Very fun though, especially given the marginal forecast. 45 minutes on the 5.0 and waveboard trying to remember how to sail then getting into it and getting a couple of little table tops. Perfect 8.0 weather. Sunny and flat. New boom and new harness so the first few runs were spent fiddling with harness line placement and length. Finally got my groove on and played around out past clover point where the wind was steady and the water flat. The new 2005 Retro is a huge improvement from the 2001 model.

Got gear right, way off on timing. New sail used: check! Got out during 2hr window: check! Great sail: not so much :roll: Some serious waaay OP on new flattt 5.3, couldda been 4.2, gusty w/nice sweet waves going in for few rides, mega port ramps going out, big standing ramps along channel, held on several runs, re-rigged, watched it die almost swam in w/ 4.8. 'Volatile' in the forecast meant gusty winds. Chose the 12 to minimize liability but a ~25 knot burst convinced me to come in. Kite wouldn't self land on the beach so I released the bar & walked up the fifth line. Happy with the system. I think Rob C. had the best kite session today.( 11m) Good timing. Some guy in a speedo was out for hours with a 10 M sail on a big saucer.

Weird flukey day. Nice 15 minute session, then the wind died. I stood around and went out with the next wind. That lasted all of 10 minutes of nicely powered-Then Wham! Next thing I'm being teabagged and dragged at terrifying speeds. I managed to release my safety(manual system) just before I hit the shore( I had to use my teeth as I couldn't get a proper grip with my gloves). After a phone call to Litewave Dave, I have this kite figured out pretty well now.
I'm falling more in love with this kite, everytime I use it.
Tried body dragging on my back today, works like a charm.
Makes your whole body the rudder instead of just your arm.(didn't like the water rushing in my ear though)
Probobly my best session, this winter also. 8)

Got the day off work and was happy to see to forecast was looking good. Went down to IV and saw JL setting up, self launched not so good but made it to the water for a great session, tried to play in the surf where JL was but got abused, so I opted for deeper water. Went out for a second session later in the afternoon but wind was not as consistant as earlier, called it a day and was happy to meet some more kiters that I haven't met before :D

Left home out of desperation...(kelp S. 9 & work looming)...Rigged up with Jason as a dark line moved in from Darcy Is...Had a great 14M session...Strong flood current but the little bay before the outfall was fun. Tested my fifthline/punchout @ end of session and fifth line broke (worn out where it travels through bar !!!) ran down beach & grabbed the o-shit handle !!! (whew)...Off to work with a smile on my face. 8)

Maui recap:
was in maui for 14 days (feb 23 to Mar 8), it blew all but two days. Due to family time, rest days and surf missions, i sailed 9 days.
2 days were 5.5 or 6.0
1 day i was on a 4.2
6 days i used a 4.7 or 5.0
Sails demoed: Naish Force, Ezzy SE waves, Hot Superfreaks, Simmer Xflex.
Boards demoed: JPXspeed 100, Naish Vector 114, JP Real World Wave 91, Naish wave 85, JP FSW 91 and 84. The FSW84 and naish wave85 were my faves. I used bigger boards than im used to here because it was tricky ge ... (more)

Nearly didn't bother to go out, but after watching a while a spate of dinghy capsizes suggested there was some power to the gusts. Launched off Humber Road so I had some Vancouver Island downwind! Planed for a few secs here and there, on a fast plane once, wouldn't have been worth it if I wasn't desparate. 7.5 and me pretty much sink the board. Would have been AWESOME for Formula!
