Sailed with Mark and Kus for a brief 5.0 session. The wind shut off suddenly with little warning and caught Kus fairly far out after riding the last puff out. Mark and I lolled on the beach in the warm sun and watched Kus float around like a helmeted piece of driftwood. Eventually he made it in with surprisingly good spirits. Had one weird rolly forward loop while underpowered on one reach. Felt very cool in slow-mo'.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D OK, so I went to the place of gainful employment, but managed to leave by 3:15, on the water at 4, and sailed till 6. Probably would have been fine with a 6.0, but not really that overpowered except in the gusts. Exceptionally stable NW, sun, seals and otters out. Top speed 47.5 kmh, 22.7 kms covered, some jibes successful... Nice!!!! :D :D :D :D

Got out and schlogged for a couple mins while adjusting harness and boom then pumped up and started ripping! It started to drop but thought I'd just go out a bit farther and catch the wind, third bad move. It was sorta hovering around 8kts, just not enough for the 8.5m but too lazy to come in and rig the 10.0m which was in the car.....fourth bad move. Went looking for puff ... (more)

20+ knot winds at IV tempted a long lunch. Got there to see BigDoorDriftSome alternately slogging and planing on an 8.5. Rigged 5.8 anyway, slogged to windward OK, felt like if I'd had the 7.5 I might have planed a couple of times. Found the board wants to sink if pointed downwind in light wind. Long swim, a couple of uphauls to get back in.

What a day to pick for the first of the year. Gnarly. Wind was a bit too south, and the swell was a bit too small and blown out to qualify this as an epic session though. Did my best to pick off a few rides with Vandall, Graham, Jose and The Law. Packed up and left when it started to fully blast - a good move as I avoided the epic wait for downed trees that the others suffered though.

Fun to be back of the board after a few months. Some good rides but things were a little mixed up. Biggest eye opener of the day...heading out sewers way and watching the dunkinguy out running a huge wall of white water...wait a minute I am not going to make it by this wall of white...gybe...no wind...fall in...white becomes black followed closely by no breathing. Then the ride home...way to go Sooke's finest...keepin us safe!

A twelve hour adventure chasing the weather bomb to the not so secret spot with the LAW. We hit it quite early to try and avoid the menacing winds of the early afternoon. Avoided tree fall on the drive out. Arrived to an empty lot except for the crazy dog guy who was "stuck man." Waves were tiny and the wind was bang on shore blowing at least 25-30. What a long and fun? filled day. Started out almost not making it out when a tree blocked the road. Then got out to JR to see gusty onshore wind with small wind swell. Waiting around until about 2 then the real sets finally started to show up and the wind clocked more sideshore. Should have rigged the 3.5, cause the 4.0 was a handful. Couldn't do much on the outside, and the wave rides were super powered up. Highlight was one juiced up down the line run with a couple of fun smacks. Saw Dunkinguy rotate into ... (more)

quite an adventure just getting to JR. detour thru east sooke. monster wind gusts. I only did a couple of runs and low-key rides -- wasn't having a whole lotta fun in the nuke conditions. Op'd on the 5.0, switched to 4.5. Much better. Found my looping mojo again after the savage backslap fest last Sunday on the 4.0. Sailed with Chewy, Paul, DWD. Low tide saw the lower sandbar breaking. Buttery smooth, 3 turns on a wave. Nice! Tweaked my shoulder landing a backloop awkwardly/OP'd. FUN!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D After Bean & I cancelled on CB for different reasons, I went out in the 'yard' to play. One tack half way with winched down 6.0 - back in for the high wind gear.... Stayed out fighting the gusts (easily 3.5-3.0!) getting in absolutely wild rides. EPIC!!! Top speed 44.6 kmh with waves - nuts.... Best day in Nanoose Bay to date... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
