Huge day! Hours of 5.0 but flukey on the inside. Biggest back loop ever and best forward ever. Too bad I was bagged by the time the big swell started to roll. Happy New Year? YES!

Its too bad everyone at CB called it quits early because the late afternoon WAS epic. 4.7 morning gave way to 40 knot gusts by 3:00pm!! Props to everyone for the sailing level but Windoc's large backloop which he stuck very sweetly was a treat to watch!! I can't wait to get over again for the next blow.

Started around noon with the 5.0, OP rigged 4.5, lightened up, back out with the 5.0, then it REALLY filled in. Hot tea huddle in the MOHO, Grant looking lonely out there on his 4.0. Rigged 3.5, borrowed Paul's board, put the campfire out with it. Got past the break finally, one jump to pearl. On the train to Sidney along with the logs. Humbling conditions. Hiked back up the beach, kissed Grant's right bootie - He is God.

Yeah what the other CB'ers said. Can't wait for Bean's post - he was working on it all day so it should be amazing.

Wind was really side-off so weather station was reading low.

Happy new year :!: Thank you Columbia Beach :D BWD and I headed up wondering if we'd be nuked off the water with the 55knot warning. but, no blowout to be had. Just lots of great swell riding by the usual gang of rippers. Gusty at times kept everyone alert. Too many big and bold moves to recount by windDoc, Dunkinguy, BWD, MikeC, etc. Highly motivating and kept my stoke going dispite the cold. Personal highlight for me was 1st sail away spin loop. Well worth the drive.

:D The wind was side-offshore today which made for gusty/holey conditions on the inside at first, but filled in by noon. A good turnout produced lots of action thru the day, one of the highlights being Dunkinguy doing a huge end-over-end forward on the way out followed a few minutes later by another forward coming in that turned into a wave ride. Today had the most action I think I've seen at CB. Too bad it wasn't a bit warmer. 8)

    COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hands numb, left foot numb from large hole in bootie. But sooooo gooood!

Some great sailing by the usual CB guys. Morewind hucking early on, Bean throwing his best loop so far (perfect rotation), Mike C ripping the late afternoon big swell, BWD getting multiple turns on each wave, Moe drinking copious seawater and feeding the fishies, Don ripping and tripping on his Acid, Dunkinguy throwing one hand Backies, and me stoked with a high, clean Backie and some fun turns.

Wind up and down, finally got going during a lull with big board and sail, had a few nice runs, made some planing gybes :) then it came back up and I was too OP to get going, straight upwind of launch, so body dragged back in. Then spent far too much time in shorebreak trying to sail small board. Wind straight on shore, I'd get going in gust, then a lull would leave me sinking still in shorebreak. Too cold by the time it really blew (35-40) when I would have had lots of power on 4.5 Great times though ... (more)

hmmm well I think the wind range says it all (straight from latest reports - comox) .... survival kiting.... not fun... it was alright at first, definately overpowered but nevertheless semi fun, until it kicked up a notch pretty quickly, and then just getting back to the beach became a challenge...

anyway I won't complain about a windy start to the year! Happy new year everyone!

So '05 had some more action for me after all! It didn't start off well. I was screaming: "TURN DOWN THE SUCK!" with tears welling up in my eyes while slogging around on a 5.8 by myself at dawn at CB after a night of 40+ knots in the strait. It turned out to be a fun powered-up 5.8 session with a few good airs on the outside, some depowered micro-smacks on the inside and another nearly-sailed-away-from back loop. Smiles all around.

Ready to punch-out and let go then it eased enough to crawl back up wind, scramble over the logs, and get to the water. Nice swell inside and outside. :D :D :D That was lotsa FUN!! First 3 hours were 50/50 planing and schlogging but from 1:30 till 2:30pm it was a blaaaast!!! Arrived at 10:30 to 6-8kts...it was quite puffy. Gusting 10-12 and then not much. Then BANG at 1:30 it picked up to 15-18 with gusts of maybe 20kts. The FE and Severne Overdrive 8.5m are the perfect match. Easy to pump up to a plane and manageable in the gusts. WOW!!! FUN :D , FUN :D , FUN :D !!

When I came off the water at 2:30(ish) BWD, MW, KUS and another poleskipper were ther ... (more)

Almost missed the second session! Best Kook St. day I`ve ever had. Smooth, steep swells, very little debris and warmish made for a memorable session.Unfortunately had to go to work at 2pm, but had incentive to go for it a bit harder. Practiced stalling some bigger jumps, bearing off, and sheeting in. FUN!!!!!!!

Landed two backs off some sweet skateboard ramp swells.

Amazing what getting only scraps of wind will do for the motivation before a big day like today! My body hurts..........

Great Day!! Got a little over powered on the 4.8 but it was worth it in the end when things eased up a little. Broke my carbon mast. Thanks to "Wingnut" for the loan of his back up Chinook.( gave me another 3/4 hr in the waves!!)

Couldn't stand watching Kook Kam/Latests; got there during 2nd lull freaking at size of swell, Holy  Surprisingly shore break no issue; Flat rigged 4.8 OP in gusts, not as strong as at 1230 but just right to learn to drive EVO, tailed off slowly after 40min. or so to give mellower conditions; beauty day at Kook, nice turnout :P Paying 4 double sesh day now, flu WILL kill me yet  haaack. cough, snort  (replace brnpops w/ lemontea)
