Not much TOW, but WOW :!: what a day even to watch! Learned a lot that way. I got worked in shorebreak 3 times near stairs, peak HR 177. very lucky not to break mast/booms/sail/board, almost chickened out of going out at all. Walked rig up the beach to the point, it was building all the time, so some of the waves there ended up almost as big there as they had been at the stairs. Longer flats between though and fewer reefs lurking  Outhaul slipped on my first run out, kinda OP till I got back to ... (more)

Sesh would've scored "0" if not for thrill of wicked mega gust rides near the end, switched hardcore to SW giving full-on ramps but I was just happy to avoid a long walk back, Doc hit a few. Mark tried a 3.7 w/me a 4.2 when we got there but it was just sooooo falsely advertising, poor neighbors enduring serious language when I couldn't get EVO to go.

Oddest day I`ve had at Willows.

Arrived to see Mark and Kus ripping on 4.7 and 4.8. Appeared to be ultra gusty. They came in with negative stoke. Wind picked up again, Kus and I went out and the wind was 0-35 and back to 0 again. The wind switched to SW and allowed for great jumping head on into 2-3 foot ramps - fun for forwards and backs. This lasted maybe half an hour. Slogged in, packed it in. Here comes the Westerly. Wish I could hit JR. Off to work!

    2.00 hours
    Finally! Trade winds are blowing.

Rented an RRD Freestyle/Wave 101L board and a Naish 6.2 Wave sail at Hi_Tech on Hana Hwy. Great guys. Highly recommended if you visit and need equipment.

Got in about 2 hours of wave riding Maui style. Got thrashed a little but got some airtime and onshore wave riding in too. It was great to get on the water again and get some sweet surfin in.

    Tomorrow?

The Lonely Windsurfer. Pretty gusty, especially near shore, but some nice smooth runs too. Small starboard ramps, cleared the fin a few times. Hit a big chunk of wood sailing straight into the sun, luckily no fin breakage. Warm, no need for gloves. Georgeous day. Made a few ugly gybes, sure beats waterstarting every tack.

Rented boards and sails etc. at Hawaiian Island Surf and Sport at the corner of Dairy and Hana in Maui. Nice people! Rigged at Kanaha and tried to get mobilized for about a half hour but the wind just wasn't there. De-rigged and went to Kehei where the wind was 5 - 20 kts. Rigged up and beat myself to death for another half hour. It reminded me of the launch at Nipmpkish. Bob, bob, yank! Oh well. The water was nice and warm.

50th outing of the year :!: :!: Peeled out of work at 10am and headed to the fabled land of wind and swell. Got to the parking lot at CB, and one other van was there - BWD. Great, someone to sail with :!: No swell today, but decent wind most of the afternoon. So great to get out :D :D :D Much like Nitinat, so worked on Nat stuff like tacks, helis, 360s, couple of forwards. I figured since all I brought was the barn door and the 10.0m that I didn't want to wimp out so.....I started to rig and Kus arrived and proceeded to take out his 5.3m and 100litre board. Got to parking lot, Kus was swearing up and down that it HAD been windy - went completly flat for an hour, we waited it out. Built fast, I had short OP on 7.5, rigged 5.0, sailed a little then it died. 7.5 for a while, then OP, so switched to 5.0, OK for a while then it died .... etc. Almost broke arm falling on boom during jibe (got to quit standing up to straight after the step and re-hooking as I'm flipping) Oh yeah, one hard catapault, 1st in over 2 years, whiplash felt next day.

First day since OCTOBER 30th!!!!!! And a great day it was. Sailed alone juiced to the hilt on the 5.0 with the waves starting to build. Dunk arrived and started huckin'. I squeezed in a couple of little bottom turn/cutbacks scary close to the beach and did one big over-rotatated emergency bail-out back loop in the impact zone before the swell died off a little and was flat near the beach. Last sail of 2005, and it was a good one!

Unfortunately we just missed it.....it was blowing 13-15 when we got to the beach and I knew it was windy downtown so I rigged the smaller 8.5m expecting it to pick up. We watched 3-4 guys sailing powered up as we rigged...funny thing was they came in as we were going out....shoulda asked why....stupid!! Got out and didn't get up on a plane once...pumped lots and lots but just wasn't quite enough. SO FLIPPIN CLOSE!! I shoulda rigged the 10.0m and Morley coulda used the 8.5m. Oh well..it was beautiful schlog ... (more)

Beautiful day to be out. Tried one of Bobson's Formula boards with a 7.5, would have been enough while we rigged, but the wind had dropped by the time we were out. Slogged way out into Oak Bay reefs, mountains spectacular. Played near shore till sunset. ALMOST planed a few times, bigger sail would have done it. Bobson was trying some twirly low wind tricks like sailing on the lee side.

Warm body (Pyro Drysuit), freezing hands. Port jumps galore. Nice to get out. Everyone else showed up just a bit too late as the wind died. Maybe the last session for 2005? I hope not. Bring on 2006!

Started out on the twin tip in 12 to 14, then came in for the skimboard when it dropped. Nice just to get out. Not cold at all. Had to swim/walk in for 5 minutes at the end. Cant wait for some real wind.

Snowing in Vancouver so I no thoughts of going out in the water at all. On the ferry it looked a little windy. Thought to myself "Nah, too cold." Driving into town I could see small whitecaps from the highway so I turned off at IV "just to check it out." Arrive at the beach and it looked good. Of course, this was the first time in 2 months that I didn't have 3 kites and 3 boards in my van! At least I had 1 of everything in there. Slightly underpowered so it was ride and hike...but at least t ... (more)

:D TOO MUCH FUN!! :D Finally got out again....last time sailing was Sept. 11th...aghhH!!! Almost 3 months!!! Arrived at 2:30pm to find no base or ext. and 14kts so went home and back and now it's 2:50pm..looked like 12-14kts now. Rigged the 8.5m as I wanted first time to be a bit easier. Jumped up and planed right away...first run out and back was the best...just rippin' perfectly powered. It dropped off from there but still lots of fun and just has to pump to get going. Decided to come in when couldn't ha ... (more)

Well, wasn't right today, fer sure. Was ok when I decided to go and rigged, marginal when I dressed, sucked when I hit the water for a slogfest  Gusts were teasing on the marginal side for over an hour afterward, watching some secret R&D Kiter efforts 8) Insufficient to make a 16m go but annoyingly close. Staying dry knees down and making all gybes was the highlight w/ only one planing run :x
