Wow, It's about time. I arried at Willows just after three, and it did'nt look like it was cranking. However, I talked to Marcus, who lent my dumb ass a foot mast, and told me it was good. Man was he right. Solid 5.0 for about 50 minutes until the lights turned out. The water gives extra motivations for those jibes

:D :D :D So I decided that it was too light for 7.5, and cruised over to the far side with a 9.8. After a few screaming tacks (44.3 kmh), and a few sail flattenings, I decided to sail home for a 7.5.... A tug/log boom had moved between me and the sail (as they circled around in the bay avoiding the storm?), forcing an extended overpowered session. When I finally made it back, switched to 7.5, and went out, things died down again.... Lots of screaming planes with the big gun - a great day 80 on the wat ... (more)

6.5 one day, 14 the next. This is the kind of thing my soul needed. Good wind quality (esp. compared to yesterday!), though a bit light near the end of my session. I was WARM due to wearing a shorty under my suit, and I mean WARM! It was great to get out in a sunny westerly in late November. Nice to see all those faces too...

:!:  What can I say? Gusting to the mid 30's for sure, possibly beyond, it was survival kiting for me, though nice to be out in the sun. Used the 6.5m Free Air. Three things stick in my mind: water blowing off the top of waves so hard it felt like standing under a waterfall when I sat back; the odd huge wave breaking in the middle of freakin nowhere, washing me out like an old rag; and Johny Read going psycho high. Kudos to Dave, who was ripping it up out there, and to Grant W who was also a member ... (more)

    Ezzy Wave SE 5.0
Killer session! (due in part to the OR drysuit!)

Marathon Dave was 1st out. I rigged a 5.0 on the big board and was immediately super powered up. The swell was getting steeper and bigger every reach and the wind was quickly building, so I went in and grabbed the Evo. Massive ramps on the outside had me higher on a backloop than I've ever been at KooK St. I should have been on a 4.2 but the Ezzy 5.0 was just doable. Tried lots of forwards and endos and over-rotated a number of them. Getting better at shee ... (more)

:D Arrived home at ~2PM. Russell was rigging on the west side, and after a short conference call, we decided that 7.5 would suffice for the board meeting... Wrong! A reach or two had me skuttling back on the fin for the 6.0... Stayed on the Go b/c of the gusts and tha lack of desire to have a chilly swim if things died out. Top speed 40.2 kmh, 17.5 kms travelled. Nice way to end the day. Sailed in sun/clouds and rain.... :D :D :D

Tried the dakine cold water mitt with a wind chill of -4!. Works great, might try surgical or thin polypropylene gloves under for extra warmth.

Wind was punchy but had lots of fun carving the swell and stayed very warm with mitts and a 7mm hood. My new neck seal came unglued - back to the dive shop.

started w/ everyone huddled around Doc's gear once again drooling about matching colors  meanwhile the wind is great! We shoo Doc out there only to watch him rip it up for first while, frantic rigging ensues & catch tail end of OP 5.2 which then mellows & makes us work for rides. Still lots of fun, "creamy" waves out gave way to mean chop which turned into confused seas. As everyone headed out Jose & I cashed in 15min steadier water & few carves.

Got to play the wind dummy today. Managed to score the best swell and strongest wind of the day before it got funky and very cold. Started to throw forwards looking over the shoulder first as opposed to tucking my head and definately noticed a flatter spin. Cool. Lots of deadheads and sticks in the water. Sailed out with Kus into the "buttery" fatty poop swell a few times without falling. Must avoid the "Brown Mustache" at all costs! Actually, I believe we were way upwind of the shithawk boil.

Surprisingly steady wind, the puffs enough to get planing (especially with help of steep cross-sea chop) and lulls still strong enough stay planing through. As soon as the wind started to crank the swell instantly got big with a strong rip along the shore. We had to downhaul our sails to the max to handle the conditions and it stayed like that for a couple of hours. There were awesome jumps to be had close to shore in steep swells but farther out it seemed choppier than usual especially once the tide ... (more)

I'm not complaining, nice to get out, pretty sore today though.... feel like a neck brace would be a smart investment... Thanks for talking me out of flying the unmentionable sized kite JL... I'd probably be in a full body cast today if i'd flown that... Fun session though overall, fun shore break... I got aquainted with the beach a few times unintentionally though....
