Lots of holes, lots of gusts, choppy. No grove for moi today :( but had a couple of interesting wave runs.

Usual suspects around, BWD, KUS, Doc.

Pat and Rick got through the shorebreak. way to go guys!

Rick/Pat mobile looks more like my apartment! Thanks guys for the warmth!

On my way to the groceries stopped by @ Willows. Crazy KUS was derigging. Apparently he had another one sess later @ IV and then moved to Willows  You know, man, it still counts as one!

Stopped by Willows on my way to IV and found the wind was coming up nicely, so I decided to stay and save myself the drive. Very gusty/holey first 1/2 hr. then came in fairly solid but unfortunately straight onshore. Once you got away from the beach it was pretty solid with the odd lull. The bigger swells near Cattle Pt. were shoulder high at times. The rain started to come down hard just as I was finishing derigging. Well THAT was a pleasant surprise. I was up Observatory Hill at about 8am and it was flat from Discovery to IV, 10 kt max. Happened to check the BWD site and found wind. Got worked and taken down into the RV lot by the rip/shorebreak first try. Walk shamed back up beach, tried again with more success but pretty crazy conditions. Came in, rested, changed the pointer fin for a wave and went out and had a nice couple of short sessions, but tired quickly. Very happy to make a dry gybe (only one). Great h ... (more)

Damn good for a non windy day. Started off on the 5.0 and it was a choppy hellfest for the first hour. Then it got windier and it smoothed out on the inside. Nice swell on the outer sandbar. Not many SB ramps, lots of big port ones. Ccccold, but doable.

I have had much "HATE" building in me and was sooooooo happy to unleash a good portion of it at good ole CB. I arrived to an empty parking lot early. Rigged a 4.0 watching the tops of head high swell being sheared off by knife edge gusts. DWD showed up followed by the local rippers, Ozy and Paul. The wind dropped slightly, so I rigged a 4.5 instead. Good call, it turns out. I launched into the shorebreak and immediately felt the strength of the rip. Small board was too small - The vicious longshore current made those sail management sessions in the surf into nice beach strolls.... Thought about a 5.0 at one point, but "just said no" - :) Humbling session, but good. Nice to meet DWD, & see the usual suspects in the "board meeting" ... :)

Well, it wasn't pretty but I did manage to punch through the shore break a few times and get going. Unfortunately, it only lasted a few seconds before I'd get SLAMMED by a giant gust and have to start all over again. Who would would've thought that a 4.0 would too much. Unreal. The nasty shore break eventually sent the nose of my board through my sail which abruptly ended my session. Probably a good thing. I almost went to Esquimalt Lagoon instead which in retrospect, probably would've been a better call.

Got there at dawn to decent 5.8 and sailed alone for almost TWO HOURS before RG arrived. Turned into a classic 5.0 day at CB, but I stupidly sailed OP on the 5.8 thinking that it wouldn't last and I didn't have all day and didn't want to re-rig. Lots of smackable lips, table-tops, back loops (no sail-aways though) and 6ft rollers way out there for downhill hero jibes. ahhhhhhh....... and all on a weak forecast - they can be wrong the other way too.

1st sesh in a month an a half. Got to the parking lot around 2pm wind was 12-15knots just starting to pick up. Wasn't paying attention on the way out and ended up downwind of the beach. Made some ground on the next couple of runs and the wind picked up a few knots. Came back to the beach to rest and check the GPS, 43kmh max speed. BWD was heading out on the 5.0 out so I decided to down/out haul the 8.0 and head out for a few more runs, unfortunately I spent too much time in the surf mucking around with a ... (more)

Life is great on the west coast. Caught the early session at IV. (light wind) + current = ride and hike. Still fun to get out. Went home for some lunch and a sauna. Back to IV for a fine powered-up afternoon session.

Most fun I think I've ever had at IV. After waiting about an hour chatting to the kiters and watching them go downwinding, I decided to rig anyway - Jl left and all of a sudden it was worth going out (coincidence? -- you be the judge). His parting words were 'its going to come up, the wind has more weight to it" and he was right. Marginal at first, later a couple of 1/2 hours of fully powered with lighter just-planing in between. Just me and a GO board out for quite a while, then a bunch more boards out ... (more)

I came to the beach @ 9:30 and found lonely Bean's vehicle without Bean seen anywhere on the picture. As it turned out he was water starting on the outside to get back to shore.

Following his advise I rigged up 5.5 and the small board, by 10 I was out on the water. First run out was kinda slow and I was thinking of getting my big board out, but on the way back it picked up a notch, on the second run out it picked up another notch, after the third run I came in to give the sail more downhaul. Turned out t ... (more)
