Tried kiting for the first time this year on Tom's 14m. Heart pumping, dry mouthed and fairly nervous, I launched with the help of Tom and Grant. I managed to get up after a few fumbles with grabbing the board while flying the kite. Just when I stated to think; "Hey I'm up!", I started to pick up speed and tried to edge the board a bit harder to slow down (not the best course of action). Almost gave up and left but the wind gods were kind again (praise Cheesus!). Lots of carvy tricks, upwind 360s way better now. Grant hitched a ride and managed to stand up on my board in front of the mast for about 20 seconds (while kiting) and then I almost catapulted on him.

Another groggy morning - Nicole's cold kept sleep to a min, totally bagged. snorkelled the morning. Hit Hi-Tech with Graham to grab 4.7/5.5 sails, and a RRD freestyle wave 90. Graham picked up a 100L board. Got to the beach and it was blowing more than forecast, a solid 4.7 and steady. Not much wave action. Sailed for about an hour on the RRD, too big, so headed back to the shop and swapped for a RRD wave swallow 78. More controllable on the outside. some minor wave riding, some minor trick action. ... Missed the 4.5 weather of the late morning, but pretty nice anyway. Water WAY warmer than it was in February!!!! :D Fun day! The wind came up with incredible speed. One moment it was gentle outflow, the next it was hammering in from the opposite direction. Kus was on it first (sorry we missed the big huck!) and was lit on his 5.4 with the wind only getting stronger.
Jeff was pulling perfect flakas, grubbies, spock 540s, etc, etc. Apparently living in Maui over the winters is good for your sailing. I felt shame with a meek old skool freestyle effort. I finally was able to get over my Nitinat loop barrier and threw ... (more)

It looked bad at first - wind blowing outflow and cloudy, then in 5 mins it was inflow at 20+. Evo and 4.5 to start then it backed off after a few hours and the big stuff came out. Worked on all the old school carvy moves and some vulcans.

:D Yay, first day at Gordo's this year. Went there because EC updated forecast to 20 -30 and they actually got it right. Sailed 1 1/2 hrs. on the 5.6/Fish cuz it was light on the inside at first but I was mega powered on the outside. Then it finally came in so I rigged down and went out on the Acid powered up from close to shore. Lots of nice ramps for jumps and rides. The swells were smooth till 6pm then the tide started ebbing fast and it got choppier but was still fun. Too bad the crew wasn't there also. ... (more)

The gear looked excellent, so we decided to rent from them. The forecast was for 10-20, so I grabbed a '05 quattro 85L freestyle board, Graham, a RRD freestyle wave 90. Plus speedometer, rear ABS, cruise and tranny packed things in, tranny shifting like it's got bricks in it....Nice start at 2 to the day with 4.8, (kiters on 7&9M), shortboard then dropped after 1/2 hr to 5.4 free. it was cranking when i showed up at 2, and still cranking when i had to bail at 4. no gusts or lulls, just way powered 5.0 the whole time. I could have easily rode my small board if id brought it- whoda thunk? The lake is fresh and COLD like hood and bootie cold! couple kites out, one instructor on a jetski. one other sailor on a C111, tough to tell who it was with the helmet, lifejacket and sunnies (vic?) :D :D :D Amazing sunny warm fun!! Rigged at 3pm and went out quite overpowered!! It was probably 16-17kts and I considered rigging the 8.0m but just adjusted the outhaul and went back out and it let up slightly....around 5:30pm it went down to 12-14kts and I couldn't believe how warm it felt!! Only 1 serious wipeout in a huge gust on the way back in. A couple time went out a really, really long way....got lumpy off the end of Clover point a ways out.
