Not good. Got outside the bay looking for steadier wind outside (wasn't). Off and on and in a lull I feel back and BANG! Bladder blew right out of the fabric middle of LE.
Long paddle in to nearest shore, by Prince Harry's North Saanich castle. Tresspassed through a construction site. 2-3km chubby-guy-in-wetsuit jog back to van in Pat Bay.
Not good! But good to get in that situation and see how it is' Better there than somewhere riskier.

A little gnarly at the start - barely holding down an 8m in what felt like 35+ gusts. It was super choppy particularly off the end of Clover. Some nice periods in the lee on the flat water but it started to get light so went back to the west side whereupon the wind cranked again and the jit got sporty again. Saw quite a bit of gear go missing - hopefully one wing and one kite board will be located safely down wind somewhere. It was that kind of day. Just thankful to return to the grass with all my kit.

Inspired by Bobson(thanks for the shout out) to go for a quick burn before heading out of town. It's been a dry spell for me and need to get out more. Marginal on the 4 between gusts but some small swell to milk off cattle. Handful of wings and a few kites out too. Looked around and there was no wind left so pumped the foil and milked the wang in.

Arrived to Mtnarg foiling on his 8m. Looked at the water and it was 12-17kts and was supposed to increase so went with the 5.2m and 800cm2 front foil. The usual suspects, H-Rock, Greg, Mtnarg and a special appearance by Mr. N+S. The first hour was good although wind was up and down a bit. Got there early. Wind 12 - 14 kts. Decided to go with the 8m. Wind died completely so I floated around for a while. It eventually picked up and produced an excellent session. Gybes and riding toeside are definitely coming along in flat water.
The wind continued to ramp up so I switched to the 4m. Hit the water just in time for it to die down a bit. Did a couple of reaches and decided to go for the 6m. By the time I got to the water with the 6m, the wind had dropped and shifted SW as expected.

First thermal day of the year in the inlet. Relatively warm. With wingman back from the mountain and new recruit we're officially a 3 man crew.
All stoked on the paddle out. But I just couldn't get started. Tried for 45mins. Completely blew my arms, shoulders and back out. Legs cramping. Felt like my board was stuck in mud. I don't have a lot of time on the 5.5 mode, but I was thinking what the hell is going on. I could get up on a 4m strike in these gusts!!! I'm only 10lbs heaver than the fall ... (more)

First, big shout out to the Doctor for pointing me to Ka'a. Day one there with big wing and big swell. This is THE spot to launch from and the swell....well. I think I am in learning paradise. It was a little wild and the swell made it a little hairy out there. Wind was much stronger. Worked on turns and backside to toeside switches with a few barely acceptable gybes. But I did get to drop the wing and surf some mountainous swell. I feel very grateful.

I had to lose eventually. RVYC showed occasional 12-13kts so I went for it. It looked like there was some promise and the sunshine was a draw. but, with my low skills I was only able to milk 7min of foiling. Just way too much work to get up and I already had a 6m. If only I had an 8m.......

Kanaha Again. Well I just got ass officially handed to me. Big swell. BIG swell. Learned a lot but I was primarily in survival mode. Had an awesome session. Wind was a little inconsistent but not complaining. Biggest learnings came with try to cut upwind with through the biggest troughs I have ever encountered. Had to learn some new tricks.

Wow, I need to buy a lottery ticket! Another gamble on iffy conditions where I won out. Cab6 was the perfect choice. Bobson was already whooping it and RuppDog and MF4 were just jumping in same time as me. Wonderfully consistent winds that had me banking left and right while doing laps from CP to Jemmy Jones Island. A-Freakin'Mazing!!! Earned family credit in the morning, then raced to CP as heard there was some wind. Arrived at 1:13pm just as Docker was coming in looking like he was foiling in 10-12kts. He agreed. GUStastic showed up 2 mins later. I was on the water at 1:20pm. Yes, that was quick!! GUS and I were ripping in 8-14kts. I was looking for gusts to gybe in. Tried out the v3 5m Cabrinha Mantis this morning. I like hard handles! Much easier to find the handle during maneuvers. Tacked well. A little less grunty than my 5.2 as expected. Chased the sailboats around the course but too light for me in the bay. Schlogged out and bumped into Tuna in the tuna boat. Then raced off to a game.

Nice point break at 8.5Ft @ 10secs with consistent winds around 21 kts about 5C out. Rigged my 9m and had a bit of the walk to the water because of the low tide but the point break was firing and all the surfers left when the wind came up so there was lots of room. Played around at the point then went over to the beach/reef break by Conrads beach. A great wave day and left with a big smile on my face. A beautiful day at Kanaha Beach Park in Maui. Great way to start on day one on after a four year covid drought on tropical travel. Wind on the light side but more than enough with a five metre. Great conditions for day one. Solid swell at 2-3ft.

Looked iffy for my marginal skills, but the weekend forecast showed no promise. Bobson said Tweezer was out there in 10-15kt so I took the shot. And what a shot it was. Pretty consistent 15kt with my Cab6 meant almost immediate foiling once I sheeted in. Overpowered most of the time. Tweezer provided some supervision and showed off some jedi moves for the first 30 min. Once GoPro battery ran out, I switched to Cab 5. Bobson and Rupert were just putting in too. Weekend forecast doesn't look promising so figured I'd sail while I can. Cruised the shoreline for 60 and then HRock came out so did another burn with him. Then raced off to my 11:30 meeting which turns out started at 11. Oops. Thought I was nailing it!

Amazing day on the water. Sunny and almost warm. A bit light when I launched (10-14kts), but filled in after about an hour (15-18kts). Very comfortable on the 8m. Only made a couple of gybes today, but sure had fun.

Six foilers on the Ross Bay camera was all it took to get me to cancel the rest of my meetings for the afternoon. Got there and there was barely enough wind to make a go of it. Went out on the 6 and the wrong front wing. Got flying twice. Conditions started to soften. Tried to make the best of it but I was just too late.

Those were pretty special conditions today. Consistent 20ish kts, medium swell, sunshine, and helpful supervision from MtnarG and Idefix. Conditions were so good I got my first fully foiling gybe. Yay! Also realized that riding the swell roller coaster is ridiculously fun. The only thing that didn't work well was my GPS watch. I guess I'll just have to do it all over again!

Started on the appletree and 999 but the wind petered. Grabbed the big board and easy foil and played in the shifting swells around clover in and around the kelp which couldn't decide which way to flow! Was going to quit and Sam arrived. Ok maybe another run!

On and on!
Noon, quiet on the goat hill. The west wind filling in nicely. Rigged big expecting light conditions. Nicely powered on the 6m and 1750cm for 45min then downsized to 5m and 1250cm in 18 kts to mid-afternoon. Grateful for this sunny day, sailing consistent winds until the arms fell off. I was about to call it a day when the late shift crew showed up, so back out after a battery change.

Wow! Sooo smooth! Some 2' swell outside but in the sweet spot and on the inside it was pretty freakin' flat!! Yes, WooHoo!! The 3 Amigo's (MtnarG, H-Rock, Danno) were coming off the water as I arrived to 15-18kts and I couldnt rig fast enough. Wind dropped for 15 mins but as I was schlogging in wind came back so I turned and continued for another hour and saw that Danno had come back for some more. Marathon session for him!
