Holy Smokes!! Got to Oceanside early, swell was big and waves crashing were a little overwhelming. Rigged the 6.0m as the wind hadn't kicked up yet. Took a hit of RedBull and headed out. Made it past the shorebreak and ripped out over some super big swell. Made a couple of runs out and back but stayed outside the impact zone. Last run coming in fell and wave went right over top of me and rig. Blowing 25kts now....a wee bit overppowed! Rig pulled from my hands and when I popped up the rig was 20ft away. I swam after it only to lose ground as each wave took it further away....okay a little scared now...mostly I didn't want the new rig to get wrecked. Swam for the beach and ran down the beach after the gear....a couple mins later and the gear came close enough to swim out after. Back to the beach with gear and myself in tact. Thanks to somebody for that!! Walked the sail back 1/2 mile up the beach, then back for the board. Derigged and grabbed a cold Corona and appreciated life! I'll definitely come back to the Oregon Coast with more experience next time. YahhoO!!
