Was a bit of a risk heading to the lake this weekend - the weather forecast was not promising, but Ron and Gary were in town, so we thought it would be fun, regardless of the weather. When we arrived on Friday, the wind was still blowing, and John had a sail for 30 minutes or so when we first arrived. On Saturday - the wind was super light, and was cloudy and dull. Threatened to rain all day. Regardless, John still tried to sail with his 7.5. The rest of us huddled around the fire. Ron and Gary left by late afternoon. On Sunday, we woke up to a gorgeous, sunny day. And slowly the wind picked up. I had an excellent session on the 7.5. Was surprised how easy it was to sail. Was even able to get into the front footstrap - although every time I did, I felt far to back on the board, the nose would round upwind, and I would lose speed. Even when I put weight on the mast. Next time I'll try to move the footstraps forward. In the afternoon, after Sooh tried the 7.5 and was WAY overpowered, I switched to the 5.3. Overall a great day - as I didn't have any troubles sailing upwind, and was able to waterstart the first time, everytime. John's tip of staying low when waterstarting was a big help. Didn't catapult once. I still managed to put a crack in the nose. Practiced tacks and initiating downwind turns for jybes.
