Arrived at noon with Dan-O, Grant and Steve and checked out S Chesterman gusting to 35 on the beach. Squamish crew went out on 6s and 8s looking overpowered. Rigged at Cox bay where it was slightly lighter but quite on shore and silly gusty. I put up my 9 and it seemed to want to invert (must do that bridle mod) so waited for 3 hours. Meanwhile Steve and Dan were fighting with 8s and Grant was sickly dialed on a 6m Diablo slicing up big faces. Mark Sprungman (I think) looked too comfortable and super fast with a 5m. Wind settled a bit, Dan-O started to dial in then finally I got out on the 9m. Whitewater was pretty easy to clear from the angle and once at the south end of the bay could easily tack back above the surf and play in the clean swell. The inside flats were beautifully fast. One of my best surf sessions ever!
Unreality of the day was Marathon Dave with a rock steady 11m and strapless surfboard slicing it all day long. An OR 9m One was out - looking OP and it inverted several times (due to the gustiness). (Size for size, I'm seeing the flat kites' improved range is way more on the low end than the high end.)
