Aimed to be on the water at 9am, which worked out to around 1:30pm. Just as the wind and swell were backing off.

Tried the paddle first to see if the swell were big enough to catch on the 980, but the first 200m had a lot of grabby attached seaweed at the ultra low tide. Pumped the 5.5 as kites were falling and after a taxi out through the weed went straight upwind. Hitting Parksville city beach in one tack. Think I could have made it to CB in 4-5 tacks. 980/5.5 mode have amazing (but slow) upwind. Wish the modes were lighter when wet for upwind deflate downwinders. Thinking about either making a paddle shaft that attaches to the strut to remove the handles for packdown, or some attachment points to strap a paddle to with handles removed.

I think this is the first time getting the 980 in proper swell and salt water. Can now see the downwind sup potential. So nice to have a wing that will pump and glide, but is still small enough that it doesn't overpower the board in turns, or bobble in chop like mega foils. The wind backed off as the San P late bubble set in. A kite foiler not able to even get going, but that 8.0' is shocker proof as the PP would say. Normally I would have panicked being that far out in a dying breeze.

Biggest win of the day was strapless seaweed clearing breaches on the dw sup. Landed every single one. Just step back a few inches, pop off a swell, breach, ribbons release and the aoa change between the long nose of the board reengaged the foil with only one tap. Would probably be easier if I was further back on the board, but I've got it set up so I'm standing right in the middle. Another interesting note is that I wasn't touching the tail as some barracuda haters say. Even though I built less rocker into that board than most stock designs. Fits just fine in small swell.
