I almost gave up on the day as the wind was slow to come. I nonetheless went down to Clover at around 4 PM and watched as some cute kids had to run to keep their equally cute kites up in the air. Only 20 minutes later the wind arrived and quickly became proper 12m wind. As the wind came up the cute kids with their cute kites (and parents) packed up, I was left with the field to myself and two venerable stunt kite flyers who are often there. I got a launch from one of the friendly stunt kite flyers, as I have a few times before. The 12m was a lot of kite right off the mark but not too much. I got a quick clean start off the reef and was able to make a lovely long reach from Clover Point to Finlayson Point, given the southerly wind. The wind was cool and strong and I had 50% de-power for most of my session. I loved the lofty wind which made my gybe foot changes easy and which also helped me make a couple of rather theatrical tack turns. For the second time in recent sessions, I saw a sea otter very near me, they are bully little chaps. I had lots of swell rides today with some nice smooth faces to ride and made some nice top side slash sprays. I had the whole west side of Clover to myself but when I came in there was a crew readying to head out. A fantastic session.
