Launched with 8.2M and 120 liters at 11:45 on the downslope side of the mornings Entrance Isl 12kt NW 8am peak wind bell curve. Tide was ebbing till 2:30ish . Pleasantly slogged & chased the gusts at north end of park. Wind Fetch was from the South tip of Lasqueti (~350 Deg T bearing from Pipers) with gusts from the NNE between the fish huts & North tip of Pipers Park. Whitecaps and visuals showed this was the strongest Wind field likely due to compression and ebb tide back eddies caused by Neck Pt possibly enhancrd with thermal effects as well.
An eagle pair ( perhaps with fledgling thats in flight training?) hangs in this area and some red footed black bird with white spotted wings and a black beak flew in spirts headed dead into the wind. That heading always makes me jealous.
A high end light weight low wind slalom kit would plane nicely in these sub 15 knot conditions. That or something 10ft x 30" with 7 - 10 meters of sail, or a full raceboard.
Or an 8m foiling hand kite kit. Any of these would provide good fun boarding if you have a need for speed and are skilled at turning to stay in puffs. Ie Vlad's twin fin setup....
10 - 15 knots are very common summer conditions at our gorgeous Pipers park. Such a kit is vital for those tired of "Pipers Puttering" or chasing wind. Oh sidenote; Chasing sugar ants at the Harbour Masters house was intriguing too. Ingesting a mix of baking soda and medium bakers sugar with a little borax can apparently cause them to blow up!!!!! The same sugar blend that makes a great non skid when epoxy sprayed on boards..
