Love at first ride! Wind was pumping when I arrived at about 2 pm as the first shift where overpowered if still sailing or packing up. Rigged small gear (79/3.8) and was lit from the start! Madian voyage on 2023 Goya 79 Custom 4. Wind kept ramping up the whole session! Some gusts strong enough it was hard to breath at times. Not sure how Gleb hung onto that 5.0 for the whole session! Towards the end the wind felt SSE just off the beach, but turned more east the further you sailed out, sometimes rather abruptly.
Enough water that you could sail right off the beach. Wind swell was pumping on the last of the ebbing tide with some decent ramps and rides (a few linked turns/waves with some connections made easier with the new board)! There was even some decent swell rolling right along the beach with some shore break in places (just about got washed up on the beach off the horn when I came in to gybe a little too hot). Sounds like Gleb landed a push loop! Got in a few solid jumps too! Wind was generally pretty steady.
New board is lively, smooth and super fun to sail! A really nice mix of power and control! Nicely surprised with gybe exit speed and glide! Quick to plane but still seems to tame the rough stuff even better than the Evo! VERY pleased! Tsawwassen took it for quick test ride and had similar first impressions.
Air temp was cool enough I just about opted out. Van thermometer was reading 3 degrees C but phone and wind sensor were both reporting 6 degrees C. Sans gloves (just), but had some hand pain when they thawed out after coming off the water. Ouch! Squalls of bullet rain at times were a bonus.
Glad I went down and sailed! Even better getting a sense of the new small board!
