3rd accident in 2 months on Nitnaht road!!

I dunno Kus, I used to think the same (its a logging road, get over it) until I saw the roads up by Williston Lake. All the mills in MacKenzie are shut, I don't think there is ANY logging going on in that huge area, but on a Sunday we'd pass 3 graders working on different bits of the nearly 300 km of road between Tsey Keh and Mackenzie, you could easily cruise at 90-100 kmph over most of it (granted its a whole lot straighter than the Nat road), people with good suspension and new trucks do 110+. Some parts were rougher, but nothing like the Nat road except on the Ospika Road, which has no industrial or public use at all; just one small guide-outfitter 90 km down the road from Tsey Key, and he has another camp another 50 km futher on. Even most of that road was a whole lot better than the Nat was this weekend.

hayes and Teal are hauling on the south lake road, thats by far the smooth side for now. drive time is probably the same if you go slow around the north side. use your headlights and stay awake! good to hear youre ok there mcgyver.

I expected a really slow and bumpy ride on Saturday since I'd had a pretty brutal drive out 2 weeks before. I was surprised to see it was all freshly graded and quite smooth. The ironic downside to this is that you can go really fast but it's not necesarily a good thing (as I read about the near collisions)... but hey, I drive like a granny on that road as I want my car to stay in one piece and more importantly, me, my passengers and my gear! what's 15 minutes extra in your drive time to slow down a bit?

About 7 reaches back and forth during the best wind of the day I'm usually much slower on the way back!

I have my truck back. A $370 tow later with a bunch of body work damage and a Mistral 6.0 replacement window I am back on the road!

Unfortunately the biggest bummer is someone decided they would take my Whisper Lite camping stove and cooking stuff, luckily that was all they took!

what the heck??! why would someone do that?

when cj and I stopped and climbed up there to see if anyone was in there, I saw that you'd left your bags and whatnot there and I thought about collecting up your stuff and storing it for you. We weren't sure if you had been taken to the hospital or what and figured it could be sometime until you were able to get back. But it could have been hard to track you down.

Damn... thats lame.

Did you end up helping the guy on the motorbike out of the ditch or did you just call him a second tow truck?

I don't think the motorbike guy got helped from any tow truck drivers I spoke to. I was only able to get a hold of Grant Daly and that was even difficult until I phoned the RCMP. I told Grant that a motorbike needed a tow, as well as the RCMP officer.

I guess being Fathers day and all, tow truck service was almost non existent. I actually called Cowichan towing and they said sorry we don't send our new trucks out on the logging roads.

BTW My truck didn't get towed out until midnight.
