Looking to do a lot of reading!

Post by Matty1174 »

Hey,

Just getting into Kiteboarding, looking to do as much reading on it as possible before I go for lessons in a few weeks. Does anyone have any recommended websites etc that I can go to?

I want to learn about wind, launching, etc to accelerate the learning process.

Thanks!

The progression series on youtube will be very helpful for you.
Lessons in a few weeks will on the other hand will not be very helpful.
You want to wait until at least May when the steady thermal winds start. Go up to Nitinat and take lessons up there. Strong Kiteboarding is a good operation. They use qualified instructors with a Seadoo to get you out on the water faster and you get more time for your money.
Taking lessons in town with these gusty frontal winds will be frustrating and often times very unsafe. I know you are probably excited to get out, but it will be worth the wait. Study and fly a trainer kite for now, wait for the good wind for the real stuff!

& no matter how stoked you get to fly your kite, it might never be a good idea to fly it on land (Clover Pt)

Yeah, I have been looking at Strong Kiteboarding. I may save some money until late April, early May when he starts teaching again and get my own set of gear.

From what I have read Clover point is just going to be too hard to predict until then, and that way I can also get newer, safer gear as well...

I have heard that Island View (I think thats the name - Cordova Bay) can be good right now, but I don't know how much truth there is to this!
