I think the hanging around after taking a big surprise bite out of large potentially-dangerous prey is SOP ( standard operating procedure ). They wait for the prey to bleed out, then come back in for the main course with no risk of the prey fighting back.

This Darwin-award winner is lucky a couple of brave blokes pulled him ashore, or he would have been fish food for sure.

No, you can survive and still be eligible, so long as your genes can no longer reproduce. This guy may still get a Darwin Award. Depends on how high the shark bit! He's up for an honourable mention for sure!
