Funny....this just out:

Morales-Bojórquez E, Hernández-Herrera A, Nevárez-Martínez MO, Díaz-Uribe JG (2012) Population size of the jumbo squid Dosidicus gigas in the central Gulf of California, Mexico, based on mark-recapture data. Aquat Biol 15:27-34

the gist was that in April, they calculated there are up to 220 MILLION JUMBO squid in this area

Makes you rethink the whole "shark" issue.

but what makes a squid 'jumbo' anyway. for example, a jumbo shrimp is nothing to fret about.

You hit the nail on the head....they swarm.

But alas....the are in deep water during the day and only come into the shallows at night....a lot like sharks.
