Good kites for learning

Post by AdWiJo1988 »

Hey guys and gals,

It's my first season, I've spent a week in Costa Rica learning and now back at home wanting to continue on my progression, I'm fairly confident with my water starts and edging etc. and now looking to build a decent quiver, I'm curious what kites people recommend as a good beginner kite?? I have a Nobile T5 10M but I'm interested in OR razors and such. The Razor is obviously a more freestyle/C kite oriented SLE, but I wonder if it's too twichy/high strung to learn on? I'm looking to add an 8M and 12M to my quiver.

I'm a fairly big rider at 6'3" and 200lbs.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks JL for the reply, I've been looking into prodigy's but they get scooped up super quick  . Hopefully school will be forgiving and I'll be able to afford a full quiver of OR kites for next season 8)

That is a great kite and only being sold due to injury. Rebels are also good as the kite schools at the Lake use Prodigys and Rebels.

While Razors aren't the best beginners kites they're not the worst. Any modern kite at Nitinat will be probably easier to learn on than beginner kites in Costa Rica. I took lessons with Marty on Razors when I was starting out and liked them better than the Rebels I used in the other lesson set.

Not that I'm totally biased or anything, but I happen to have a 10m razor for sale ;)

Thanks for the input guys, I'm going to check out a couple of razors as there are a few on the market for reasonable prices in the sizes I'm looking for!

The 10 would get the most use for your size here at Gordons. :P

Razors - I've got a 10m I'd let go for $175 that has some use but is still has plenty of life or a 2013 12m that is pretty cherry for $350.
Don't forget to bring a towel!
