MYSTIC Harnesses. A Watershed in Harness Comfort
MYSTIC Harnesses. A Watershed in Harness Comfort
Finally after 23 years of windsurfing and kiting I found a properly designed Harness: Mystic
These are hands down the BEST harnesses I have ever used.
Recently I've owned daKine, ProLimit, and Ocean Rodeo.
The Mystic is so much more comfortable and functional, You don't even know it's on. My OR harness put scars on my hips (I guess it's really not meant to be a seat harness).
The seat harness gives you total mobility and zero pressure points.
I've read that kiters who could never wear a waist harness since it rides up can wear the Mystic waist harness with no riding up and total comfort.
I think they make windsurfing ones too.

Interesting kiting and windsurfing gear. They certainly have their own style. Check out the suits.

Thx for the brand info, always looking for a better harness. I think a lot depends on personal preference here, so I am sure both OR and Dakine work great for the majority of folks, both kiting and wsurfing.
I have had sore/blue bruised hips with several of the better waist models of the Dakine line wsurfing and they also aggravate my back condition. The seat harness style works and supports fine (a lot better, only tender after a longer day) but tends to have no sliding bar which can be limiting. Also support lines chafe on the suit and the straps along the bar ends which has caused premature wear......there's gotta be a better mousetrap. Also despite great customer service to replace for free alu bars, don't know why they still market those AT ALL.
BTW: They suck: corrode inside, deform, are generally unsafe and you should all switch to stainless (me too, still got 2 new ones of the damn things )
I'd love to try our your Mystic harness sometime, MDog or someone's OR

Mystic makes a range of different support. My seat is called the Force Shield I think. They make a much beefier one with higher back support too. Thyier spreader is SS and thin profile meaning less hollow tubing and stronger. The hook is less hooked in for kiting making it easier to unkook, plus the hook does not project out as far meaning less torque on the spreader. The spreader bar has two loops on the underside for the leg straps to pass thru. This prevents any riding up of the spreader bar.

Next time your on the lake you can try out my O.R. harness (as long as I get it back!) kus. Frankly I love it, I have had several brands and each one has not stood up to the abuse and stresses that I have put them through. I like to hold as much wind as possible so the harness gets worked hard. So far the O.R. harness has taken everything I have thrown at it and hardly shows any wear, especially at the stich points (every other harness I have had, the stiching has let go at the spreader bar attatchments). The only comment I can make that is even remotely concerning about the O.R. harness is that I am a large guy with a bit of belly, so when I sinch up the spreader bar, some of that extra is exposed and the belt Knife rubbed a raw patch on the lower back, solution, lose the weight and remove the belt knife to another location on the harness, problem solved. Nuff said,

I tried a mystic harness and i personally found it really uncomfortable. I also didn't like the buckles. I'm happy with my o.r. harness, although a bit more padding wouldn't hurt. My prolimit was quite comfortable but after one season I broke 6 things on it in a week, the quality wasn't there (I only weigh 165 Lbs). I know Dakine makes many decent harnesses, I've never owned one because I've never found one that fit me properly. Here's my humble opinion on harnesses:
The most important thing when buying a harness is that it fits YOU. Everybody's body type and riding styles are different, the best thing to do is try every harness you can in the store and buy the one that fits you the best. Any shop that sells harnesses should have a rope or simulation bar/boom to hook into so you can simulate being hooked into the harness. Better yet, try your friends on the water and see what you think. Riding with an uncomfortable harness sucks, so get the one that's most comfortable for you.
