Camera at Columbia beach

Post by GWIND »

8) camera at CB is really clear etc. but sometimes it seems a little close to the action. Is there any whey we could get a wide angle camera or lens, or a camera with controls, and or, and or, I am sure we could raise $ to cover the cost. What says you bigdavewave and other interested peoples. what's on the market out there?

The existing CB cam already has a zoom control on it. Personally, I like zoomed-in shots of the action because you can make out who's who and see clearly what is going on rather than looking at tiny specks that may or may not be discernable as a windsurfer. :)

The current camera has a zoomable 44mm to 265mm lens. That's the only lens that is available for that camera if you want to be able to zoom. You are right, the 44mm end it is not super wide angle. The only problem with a wide angle lens is that it makes everything look a lot smaller. We could get a wider angle lens (32mm) but it would be a fixed lens with no zoom, and this would not be great for low tide.

We could also look into the pan/tilt streaming cams made by Canon/Sony, but these are $2500 or so with an outdoor enclosure and then there are some big bandwidth issues:

I'm open to other suggestions though.
