ideas on renting a trailer for Nitinat? Kid friendly place?
Hi folks,
hoping to join the crew for some kiting and windsurfing this June. We are hoping to be there for a week starting on the 16th of June - possibly two weeks.
I was trying to rent a tent trailer from an island rv rental company and they approved the rental but then changed their minds once they heard that we were going to Nitinat. They were concerned about the road and damage to the camper. Does anyone know where I could rent a tent trailer or travel trailer on the island that would allow camping at Nitinat?
Haven't been to Nitinat since 2002 is it a good spot for children (4 years old) what is the camping like? Is there room for a trailer?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance (used to be a regular during university)

Hello Dan,
Sorry don't really know where to rent the camper, but can answer about the children. There are several families that come to the campsite on a regular basis, children ranging from 6 months up to their teens. I also have a 5 year old that is down at the campsite for the season as well (we do the campsite maintenance). Weekends can be a little bit rowdy, but I shut things down at eleven if noise is an issue. Typically the middle campground to the east side is quieter as well as the back camping areas. Hope this helps

advice for starters don't tell 'em where you plan to go or camp
your kid will love it on weekends when other families r there or later in season (warmer), bring tree sap remover tho a boogie board and his wetsuit that way he can play in the surf for hours (and sleep for hours too), and a windbreak for your sig other if she has to sit on the beach or it will be your last trip, invest time & $$ now, a trailer (small 12-16' max or parking sucks, arrive in daylight and on a Tuesday to Thurs), not a tent trailer all you can think of for her or you will regret it experienced here and others can confirm, Nat can be tough on relationships

This is what I was thinking 17' travel trailer and we would arrive on a monday so hopefully we would be small enough to get a spot and it would keep the elements out.
Thanks for all the tips looking forward to getting out there and seeing the west coast again.
Thanks
Dan

trailer
Hi Dan, I rented the same trailer, company out of Parksville, they were the only ones who would let the fam take it to Pachena Bay. The trailers are great, one word of advice bungee the fridge closed on the logging roads, when I got home I had 7 broken eggs and six busted beer to clean up that was all over the floor. Also bungee the cabinet door above the fridge, if your trailer has heavier duty hinges on it I put those on after the door also came off on the logging roads. Have fun. Other then that the trailer kept the fam happy.

trailer trash
Hey Charles,
Hopefully we can hook up for a few runs like old times. We have a ten month old boy so maybe we can get the kids shredding together.
I know there is a company in S. Duncan that is selling heavy duty off road tent trailers. Not sure if they rent. These would be the ticket for Nitinat.

The stove and fridge work w/o services as they can be run off propane. Don't worry the beer will be nice and cold when you are done sailing.
