The first SUP race of the Vancouver Island series starts this Sunday in Caddy Bay (demos and clinics on Saturday, racing on Sunday). It will be sprint style racing and a relay. Bring those surf SUPs out - its lots of fun. See http://www.surf-sup.ca/events

June 9-10 Victoria, Cadboro Bay
July 14-15 Tofino, Tin Wis Resort
August 18-19 Comox, Waterman Festival
September 29-30 Parksville, Beach Club Resort

$30 registration fee per event includes entrance to all races, BBQ & Prizes
On-site board rental available on first-come, first-serve basis

The next race is in Tofino and will be a California battle of the paddle (BOP) surf-style race which hasn’t been seen here on the north coast of Canada before.

Anyone have a race board they can lend me for the race? I'm interested to see how I'd fair in this flat water business.

the secret is to bring a fast surfboard, that division give you your best chance. Something like a 11'6". the guys with race boards are already fast so even if you got yourself a race board you would still get your ass kicked. 8)

I like that challenge!

But my board options are 8'5" or 9'1" neither which sound very fast.

Where is the SUP-crabbing category? First to catch a crab, cook, and eat. Maybe next year

congratulations to big dave for dominating the men's 14' group on a long and blustery race! OTlunch was on the podium for mens surfboard (3rd maybe?) i got 5th in the 12'6" group. Golden Paddle award goes to Mike's kid who won the youth division in his first race ever. :P

Thanks DWD.

Don't forget Lysanne's (kiter & website sponsor) win in the women's surf division.

All in all a great showing by wind junkies.

Photos from the Caddy Bay SUP

Post by Cindy »

You might have noticed someone sticking a large lens in your face as you were racing. This is Douglas Bains. He has posted the first round of photos
http://bluegiraffe.squarespace.com/stand-up-paddle/

If you are curious, you can also see photos he took while bobbing around Caddy Bay in his kayak during my OC6 race on Saturday. 25knots of wind might have made you guys happy....not me.

He's quite a good artist and I would suggest looking through his site. If you want information or copies, contact him directly through his website.

Cheers

i almost smoked Douglas with my paddle blade, but he got an awesome photo! That was my first try of the flying board mount, it could have gone real bad.

My personal favourites are 110-112. From what gather...Caleb was done at that point...he didn't need to put in that lap. Poor schmuck he clipped.
