Windfest 2016

Post by Ned »

Hey folks,

Time to get the 'official' thread started, now that more details are in place.

Be sure to check out the Facebook page as well:
https://www.facebook.com/WindfestNitinaht/

Windfest Registration is now OPEN!
If you want to skip the description and register straight away just hit up this link:
https://oceanrodeo.formstack.com/forms/windfest

We listened carefully to everyone’s feedback at and since last year’s event. The things we heard most often were:
- Provide better value for competitors
- Lower the entry cost to make this more inclusive
- Provide separate men’s and women’s competition(s)
- Give everyone a real chance to win prizes

Given these points, here are the main changes we have made for competitor entry this year:
- Lowered the early bird entry cost by $15 from $80 to $65
- The freestyle and big air competitions are now add-on parts of registration for $10 each
- Provide competitors a free high quality dryfit long sleeve loose fit rashguard
- All competitors entered into a competitors-only prize draw
- Provide competitors raffle tickets for the main door prize draw
- Eliminated all food provisions

Base entry fee will be $80, with an early bird rate of $65. Fee includes:
- Entry into Ocean Rodeo One Design Championship
- Entry into Canadian National Twin-tip Racing Championship
- Dryfit long sleeve loose fit competitor rashguard ($50 retail value)
- Entry into the competitors-only prize draw (1 entry per competitor)
- 5 raffle tickets for the main door prize draw ($10 value)

Events

Ocean Rodeo One Design Championship (max. 80 competitors)
The first of its kind in 2015, Ocean Rodeo once again will hold a kiteboarding one design class competition in 2016. Competitors in this class will be provided their kite, control bar, and board for each heat. With all competitors using identical equipment, the Ocean Rodeo One Design offers a true test of skill. The course will consist of a simple beach reach, a return tack upwind, followed by a short downwind slalom course to the finish. Competitors will be placed in amateur, open, or women’s class depending on participant numbers and skill.

Canadian National Twintip Racing Championship (max. 80 competitors)
For the third consecutive year, Ocean Rodeo Windfest will be hosting this sanctioned national championship. Competitors will race through the same simple course as the one design in heats of up to 8 racers. There will be at least one qualifying race for each competitor before a final round. Competitors will be placed in amateur, open, or women’s class depending on participant numbers and skill.

Twintip & Strapless Freestyle (max 24 competitors)
A good old fashioned throwdown. Who has the best moves with the smoothest style? Competitors throw down in heats of 4 with the top 2 advancing to a final round. Competitors will be placed in amateur, open, or women’s class depending on participant numbers and skill. All women’s heats will be held if possible, and judged separately depending on registration.

Big Air (max 36 competitors)
This is contest is a combination of maximum height and crowd reaction! Heats of 6 riders up against each other to max out their Woo Sports trackers as well as wow the crowd (you’ll have to get close to the beach. There will be a qualifying and final round. Competitors will be placed in amaeteur, open, or women’s class depending on participant numbers and skill.

Classes
Placement of male competitors in ‘Open’ vs ‘Advanced’ class will be at the discretion of event organizers and judges. No sandbagging permitted! Amateur and women’s classes will likely consist of a single round competition, unless participation permits further heats.

Awards
Various awards will be presented, including for top 3 event placement and other specialty awards. You don’t have to place to win some of these, so always giv’r on the water!

Prizes
Competitor door prizes
All competitors are automatically entered into the door prize draw.

Raffle prizes
The biggest and best prizes live here. Each competitor gets 5 tickets with their registration package, and of course tickets will be available for sale all weekend.

Help needed at Nitinat this weekend to assemble the Windfest stage morings or evenings. Site Foreman Golden Rule will be providing free karma boosts and mustache rides for anyone who helps out. Bring gloves, tools, beer or engineering advice. If you have questions please post.

Reminder to get your registration in. Spots are filling up and when it's full it's full. Save some money and register now! The Early bird discount ends early June. Bands are booked and the organizing committee has been hard at work putting together the best event to date so start cutting holes in the backside of your wettie cause we've only got 6 weeks to go!

Finally, If you know any sponsors who might want to help us out please let me know!
Don't forget to bring a towel!

WINDFEST UPDATE

Post by Ned »

WINDFEST UPDATE

We are on a yellow light holding pattern until Wednesday.

Forecast looks terrible, we will make the call Wednesday on whether to go ahead. If the event is no go, we will move to July 15-17. Still don't control the weather!

Check back here or on the event Facebook page for more info.

Thanks for your patience and understanding everybody.
