NICE!!! Arrived just before it kicked in, sailed 5.5 till OP, then 5.0 till wiped. Love that RRD Dave! Earlier part of session was flat with nice ramp sets outside = big, controlled floaters. Later more chop, less waves ouside, but shore break was developing. Many smiles all around.

Started out kind of ho hum mostly choppy, then it kicked in with more solid wind and good surf as it was getting dark. That really amped up the stoke for me. Wind meter average reading seems a lot lower than it was really blowing!! :D :D

Windsurfing in Alberta has redeemed itself. Sweet sesh at Keho Lake, nice gorge style waves and more than enough wind. Hit some huge airs and some memorable wave rides. Also ripped a hole in my thumb, but it was worth it. Finally a session to write home about.

Came out of the Saanich Fire training room at 3 to see the wind was cranking! Headed straight home and on to cook to find the place lit up with the usual suspects + new and old faces. Rigged the 4.5 and it was game on, made my first couple of jibes way overpowered then it was hit and miss after that. Wind was up and down but when it was up it was waaaay up. Looking at the huge reports coming in from Cook St, I figured it was likely a bit much for my 4.8 :( so I decided to check out Pat Bay. It was fully lit when I arrived but backed off a bit by the time I hit the water. Tried the little board but it was too gusty to float through the holes. The bigger board worked well. It was nice to see all the windsurfers and kiters at Boundary Bay yesterday. The wind shifted to south-southwest and it was time to Point Roberts to fire. Great surf off the point with 5-6 surfers in and the wind picked up for 4.2-3.7. Sailed until dark in big round sweels. Forwards, shove-its and vulcans. Need a good custom small weedy fin. MFC I think! Mahalo everyone!

DWD and I took a chance and scored. Mark,Pete and another guy I've seen at CB before had it to ourselves. Started off 4.2 for first hour. Got a couple fun rides off of the point- then wind backed off to 4.7 for the rest of the day. :D Wicked wind at Cook St. today - OP on my 4.0 early on then it let up a bit and was up and down the rest of the afternoon. Had to change sails several times during the session. Pretty fun day with some big rollers to ride and jump and quite a good turnout as well. Rain slashed down at times but was usually short-lived. :)

IV flat, got to Cook and noone else was there yet, I waited for company - it was howling and there'd been some wicked squalls driving down. 4.5 was my smallest, borrowed a 4.2 from she-who-must-not-be-named (thanks!). After a lot of procrastinating I started out on the 24" Imac. Did a couple of runs up and down the stairs to check latest reports and webcams. Got a couple of jumps, onto the bike for repeated rides to the beach. Got one more run in back to get the van/gear. At this point the wind seems strong enough to rig the 5.4, which I do. Looked like it was going to come in really good, (according to 25 k forecast) which would have left me switching sails really soon( everybody else on 5.2s or thereabouts). I think I could have gotten planing much more had there not been a giant globule of prairie muck stuck to my fin. However, there were other people out, proving that there are other people in Alberta who sail (or at least kite). Must go have a shower to wash off pesticide residue.

:D Guessing the local wind wouldn't show, Jellyfish and I decided another roadtrip was our best bet. Wind was up and down for most of the afternoon with some rather large holes...played musical gear. Finally around 5 it filled in nicely to 78l/5.2 powered to OP conditions. Got a few nice jumps as the ramps got bigger. Came off the water as the guys were rigging their small gear. Large raindrops at times but nice and warm. :D

Arrived in a big rainy lull and wondered why I drove 2hrs and took the aft off work. Then it slowly filled back in but it was a bit gusty and flat. At about 6pm the wind turned on and the swell picked up out of nowhere. Great waves for riding and jumping. Large smooth swell on the outside. Some fun loops on the 3.7. Mattdog slashing and getting huge air. Nice and warm too.

Some glum faces when I arrived at about 4:45. Damn those forecasts. Dave S. was out on his 5.8 and his 120 Carve. So I rigged the 5.8. As I was about to go out on the Carve it popped up so I rode the 92 Goya. Crowd got way happier. Picked up some more so everbody rigged down, plus got out on my small board. Swell and waves went from nothing to massive in about 1/2 hour or less. Pretty amazing. Got some great wave rides. Nice high tide. Darkness was on it's way and wind was dropping so I had a few ... Whoo-eee, winter is back. Nicely lit on 9m for big airs. Waves went from nada to head high steep swells within 1/2 hr - what a treat!. Milked it til dark in the surf.
BWD doing some nice carvy stuff and a bit of down the line too ...
