One more perfect day at Chestermans, last day before I head home and it was made to order.

Groundhog Day at RB. In a good way! Another 4m session at RB, again, with long, smooth swells that I finally found the bravery to try. Nicely less gusty today and, oddly, fewer boarders on the snowboard swell runs. Getting more and more comfy with riding the swells. These repeated RB swell days have worked wonders for my confidence. Fun sharing the winds with Danno and BWD. My gopro ran out of power so I brought it in for a change, and suddenly, the wind switch toggled to OFF. Jon and others lulled.

Went down around 1030 and it was very empty. Quite a bit of wind and I wanted to foil rather than twin tip so went in in the windward side of clover for a change. Quick drift through the salad followed by a great session in amongst the rollers at the point.

Wasn't going to go and felt tired and lazy, but glad I did since it was one of the better sessions of the week. Classic skate park conditions with steep and smooth swell. Feeling more comfortable on the gear now, I guess 6/7 days helps. No angry Brazilians, but idefix kept stealing my waves.

It's like Groundhog Day on loop. Another sunny, windy, 4m, swelly day. The difference today was the zombies ate everyone and it was weirdly empty of sailors. A long weekend Saturday with less than a handful of peeps on the water, for a while i was the only one at one point! Good times again! Big sealion hanging with me for a bit.

I felt sorry for my Slingshot Celero for sitting in a bag all the time so I took it out today. I mostly leave it at home because it is not great with chop and there was plenty of that today. Nonetheless, I enjoyed riding it as it is quick and snaky, if a little harsh on the legs in the chop. I decided to go early and was rewarded with a fantastic session. Only CB was on the water when I got there and when I was heading out, he was heading in. I got a launch from Dave C. who was at clover for a photo se ... (more)

Awesome RB session! I thought my 5.5 might be too much but it ended up being perfect for the full 2 hours. I've started playing around with reaching on both tacks, which I discovered today is SUPER fun when combined with larger waves. Turning into the troughs and then back up the wave faces -- FANTASTIC. Only a few other folks on the water all morning. Worked on toeside and gybes some more in the shallow end with somewhat better results.

Walk-in. Set up my walk-in campsite to give myself a break after the drive across the island. Arrived at the beach to find an odd layer of solid high cloud and slack low tide. But there was wind and waves on offer so took to the water! Wind was a touch punchy, but waves were had (some of the earlier ones were the cleanest while I was out and then things got a touch unsettled). Toward the end of the session I was felling both overboarded and overpowered (even with the sail full flat). Still even a few ... (more)

Bday boy. Early morning solid wind and slack high tide at Pipers. Rigged 4.5/92 and waited for the wind to back a touch before launching (it looked windy on the outside). Once out the wind had some west wind in it that made pointing tough and a little spooky after the winger went in. Took a few more runs then took a break. Returned to the water with Udder and Kus. Session was capped with a slice of birthday cake for Kus! Fun way to start the day!

New spot, first time off the cruising boat! Setting the board up on the foredeck and pumping up the wing in the dinghy worked well. Breeze was on the lighter side but consistent and just enough. Sailed out the harbour and rode a friends 55' power boat wake back downwind while they got some good video. Stoked to finally go off the boat! Unfortunately the Round Saltspring race ended early for us with gear failure on the Melges 32.

Tofino just going off daily!
Rigged the 9.5 then as I was going to launch the wind picked up and the 10 crouched down on the beach, looked like a cat with its ears back.
So I grabbed my 7 and that was the right call. Waves were behaving and the gusts weren't so bad, I took full advantage. Got loads of surf practice in this time.

Followed up my wing session with old(er) school sailing. Wind was up and swell starting to build. Tried the 926 front wing again. Super glidey in the swells. Post session was not so good when I realized I'd cut my hand at some point (likely on the foil) and was making a bloody mess of everything. No sailing for a bit while I wait for my finger to grow back :(

Day two on 72 litre sinker. Still going to need some time figuring out a more elegant take off in larger swell but already a big improvement from yesterday. It'll happen. New learning curve so just need to put the time in. The good news. This board is awesome, I can feel that i am going to progress as a foil surfer on this set up. So much control on the jibes. Intuitive. Conditions were amazing, solid swell. A little gusty, no biggie.

Got there a bit too early. Fun cruising conditions at first so I tried to recreate Tweezers track from yesterday, only better. Came in for a break then back out and conditions changed to full on 3.5 and 4ft rollers. Lots of fun but a bit tired from the long reaches earlier.

First time out after 2 weeks (flu etc) Great day to come back to nice rolling swell and lots of wind and sun. Was able to rescue a wing and return the favour. (I know that helpless feeling when your leash acts like a whip and suddenly rips off your wrist) . Lots of smiling faces, quite busy for a friday but I guess its a long weekend. Had some great turns and connecting swell for some long runs.

Friday evening sail! Fun cruising around looking for swell, well powered on the 3.5. Found some fun rollers right up tight to CP. Tried the windward side, chopped up swell and kelp, but fun to check it out. Called it after 20km as this is day 3! Hit RB pub for a beer and burger.

Sunny afternoon session at Ross Bay at the upper limit of the 5.5m and some small swell. Good turnout of all crafts and nice to see some other fins on the water...

RB keeps on giving! Fantastic swell day. Less gusty than yesterday. The sea lanes were busy today with lots of windsurfers and many more wingers. Had a couple of close encounters with Idefix and Alain that we smiled about later. Got some wonderful flagged out rides today, sharing the swell with Idefix and GregCan. Often felt OP'd with the 4m out beyond Clover so I didn't go out there too often. The RB maintenance crew must have been deployed earlier as I noticed no kelp nor floaties on my DH runs. Sweetness ... (more)

Started on the 4m but changed to 3m after going out and checking the outside. Good crew out and fairly clean water. Gusty but the swell built through the session and had some fun and steep ones. A bit more technical to get up on the small board with the 3m depending on the gusts so a bit more patience required. The thin rails and narrow shape really help on edged touchdowns though.

Frustrating tow in the morning due to strong wind! Winging was good but I'm sick with a cold so energy was low. Had a 6 min ride from the point to the last section. Big arcing carves like a snowboard in powder. Hoping to shoot the boys in the swell forecast for tomorrow am then we hop on a flight back to Van. The next week looks off the hook good for the next group. Envious? A little...
