All the usual spots were quite terrifying for me and OSRs from MtnarG reinforced the ferocity of the conditions. So I went looking for alternate more sheltered spots. Esquimalt Harbour - no easy access. Portage Inlet! Accessed from the Portage Inlet Picnic Area was worth a try. Tide was mid-height and I knew it was a bit shallow there but it was mud in the shallows. After an easy put in from the picnic area, I was foiling within 30sec. And then down after 30sec. It was gusty, with lots of holes, but much better than trying to fight through the terrifying shore breaks. Cab6m was way overpowered in the gusts, but perfect in the holes as I was usually able to pump wing and foil through them. Longest rides were in the 1.5min range. I got a GoPro's battery's worth for the session and the wind seemed to be lessening by then. Of course they perked up again once I was all packed. Recommended location for easy foiling on harsh wind days for newbs like me. Very limited parking - room for 3 cars on the access road. TC Highway is a bit loud.
