After waiting for wind all day on a day off, finally a little S sprang up long enough to tease me out - for about 5 min, it died and the rain started bucketing down. In desparation, took the paddle off and had a good workout - much harder to balance with tons of random boat wash/reflections of same, plus a pretty strong flood. It poured. Lots of oil sheen in patches made me not want to fall in this time (a fish boat that capsized yesterday and was righted today just nearby was responsible I think). A fish guide came up alongside to talk and said he thought I was paddling a log - thats what it looked like from a distance. Lots of people near the dock/boatlaunch thought the SUP looked cool though, and a woman came up to ask me if I was one of the "adventure racers" that made todays local rag headlines "World's best adventure racers ready for wild time; Raid the North Extreme will take them on gruelling trek across region". Do I look like I could race 500 km up and down sheer rock faces and paddle and mountain bike extreme single track day after day' The wetsuit must hide the beer belly!
