First planing runs in far too long, in both straps in a little squall at the beginning of a rain shower. Finally a little fix! Did a tack in a lull on the far side of the harbour, popped the sail to get going on the new tack, and a bang up above I thought the mast had broken - but the mast was poking up 3 or 4 feet past the sail top. A long beat back in in flukey light winds, and I couldn't figure out what happened - the top plug seems to have pulled out somehow. Fixed it and drifted around for another hour but the wind had gone. Found you can pump a Kona in no wind standing on the nose and throwing the rig sideways towards the tail. You can go 3 knots or so this way.
Met windsurfer Jim on the dock after. Friend of Art's, I think I camped next to him a couple of years ago at the Nat. Good chat for almost an hour while his wife waited impatiently in the car (sorry, I didn't realize! She rolled her eyes as he drove off late for whatever....). I hope the Skeena thermal kicks in while I'm here, it sounds very Gorge-like.
