Foil size is definitely significant, bigger foils can be pumped into the air before the board is foiling. Another factor is rig weight. I think I was using my 3 batten 6.3m when you were on a 8.5m cammed sail. I'm guessing my rig weighed half what yours did. Where windfoiling really works on the low...

Re: DIY wingfoil harness?

Guys have cut minimalist hooks out of thick cutting board and report they hold up very well plus slide to the side easily. Would be a low cost experiment.

Re: Hello!!

Winter wind is usually best around 150km North of Victoria although sometimes there is enough wind at Island View (waves with BIG shore break at high tide) or Willows (pretty mellow) and less frequently at Clover Pt.

Not having a car is going to make things a challenge.

You'd probably love the Winduro that happens in Seattle:

I've done it on a raceboard but not foil. Super fun experience.

Looks like you need more OH and possibly more DH, but I didn't ever mass with SDM masts on mine.

Nothing official but a few of us keep beginner gear around to help people get started.

It's not the cheapest hobby though, be warned.

Foil weight isn't super important except for carrying it.

But board and rig weight definitely do, as does foil design.

Keep the foil on, it adds a lot of stability and upwind capability.

Willows is probably best for a beginner on that end of town or Ross Bay on the inside if the swell isn't wrapping in too much.
