Foil size is definitely significant, bigger foils can be pumped into the air before the board is foiling. Another factor is rig weight. I think I was using my 3 batten 6.3m when you were on a 8.5m cammed sail. I'm guessing my rig weighed half what yours did. Where windfoiling really works on the low...

Guys have cut minimalist hooks out of thick cutting board and report they hold up very well plus slide to the side easily. Would be a low cost experiment.

Winter wind is usually best around 150km North of Victoria although sometimes there is enough wind at Island View (waves with BIG shore break at high tide) or Willows (pretty mellow) and less frequently at Clover Pt.

Looks like you need more OH and possibly more DH, but I didn't ever mass with SDM masts on mine.
