Thieves at Nitinat!

This is a definite bummer.
A couple of years ago a buddy from Georgia, who was just learnig to windsurf, visited me and we spent a week at Nitinat. He was awed by the sense of community, the friendliness, and the fact that no one took advantage of anyone. He was impressed with how easy it was to met people who quickly became friends (Perty bacame his favourite new bud). He was especially impressed that the "experts" would take time to offer advice on beach starting, rigging, sailing, foot placement, etc. etc. When we left he told me that he thought there must be a special bond between windsurfers - that they all felt like they were part of a "family" who looked after one another and helped one another. He couldn't believe that people would leave thousands of dollars of equipment on the beach trusting in that their "friends" would respect each others rights and property.
Last weekend as I was packing up to leave a young lad approached me to ask if I would sell him some beer. He said that he didn't realize that there wasn't a liquor store at Nitinat when he drove in and he and his friends had run out! There are a lot of new people at the site who haven't yet realized how special the place is (and to bring enough beer to last the trip). Hopefully, in time they will.

LOL on the rat traps, but once your all liquored up you might forget where they are and get yourself!! Seriously though, I still think if we all simply watch out for one another it will make it alot more difficult for someone to ransack somebodys stuff

before we left some very sketchy guys in a red ford escort cruised through the campsites. they literally looked like they had just gotten out of jail...
that night i took my wallet out of my car and put it in my tent with me as i was flying the next day.
that was thursday morning. it sounds like they may have still been there.
i believe the licence plate was 485 GAP
anyways, sorry about that dude.

You could always fill up your empty bottles with a little "homebrew" if ya know what I mean 
That should hopefully make them think twice. I also had a friend who used to paint a white X on the bottom of each of his bottles. That way you can see who's drinking your beer!

what a bummer
Yikes! ... I had no idea that there was stuff being stolen out there, i've been leaving all my kite gear outside my car every night... not to mentions digital camera and wallet and stuff all in my unlocked car.... what a bummer... guess its time to lock stuff up, I'm all for some "bait car" action. We should totally set up something really tempting to steal, should put an end to this pretty quickly, it can't be more than a couple people doing it...
This is actually kind of ironic because just on sunday night me and a friend were talking about just that, how nice it is that you can leave your gear outside overnight and stuff and not have to worry....
I'm pretty disapointed by this, and would really like to see this come to an end... as does everyone else im sure....

once again talk is cheap and maybe people should start to report it to the RC'S, just next door. I know i don't leave anything lying around, do you leave your car open in the city????????? I DON'T... JUST MAKES GOOD PRACTICE TO LOCK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think most video cams have a night vision setting. I tried my old Sony Hi-8 cam 3 or 4 years ago in a pitch black room and sure enough, it gives a clear picture of everything in the room, just with a greenish tint.
Leave an old video cam, that has this feature, hidden and running and leave some beer for bait. You'll have to change the tape every hour, but I bet you get a positive ID on the culprit(s).
