I was expecting to slog out to the middle of the lake before planing but the wind was filled into the bay and I ended up way OP outside. :shock: Ended up too far upwind so I sat on the board for awhile to drift downwind. Small gear is definately more fun.

This was a rather clumsy day for me. Managed to put a few new dings in the board just carrying it up and down the stairs. It was fun though. The new board doesn't do chop like the old one, but it has quite a bit more float. Hoping for another session at Gordons or Cook tommorow!

That was way more fun than I expected. Just enough to plane, but consistent for the whole time. The waves were amazing! I wish I'd had more speed because the ramps were setting up everywhere! I did get a couple of hops, but they were more like drops - down the backside of some steep 2 m waves. Had lots of practice wave riding, which I'm not too good at. The weeds were a bit of a bother. After a sweet mountain bike ride in the morning I actually had to share Tribune Bay with a few kiters (10M), another windsurfer (4.2M) and a guy in a wind buggy ripping it up in the sand (with a 3M trainer kite?) . My fin is gettng more and more worn down in the sand. Good day in the waves, learning lots about sailing onshore wind.

The wind didn't live up to the Ballenas reading, plus weedy. Not much wind even on the outside unless I went way out. So when I was trying to get up on a plane I would look down and there was the weed slowing me down. Then I would try a jump to get rid of it, hit a big ramp and then drop out of the sky due to 0 wind. 4j and I agreed that the best technique seemed to be to slog out as high upwind as possible and then try and find a wave to ride in. BIG! Overpowered on 3.5 and 74 L Evo. Had to come off the water - couldn't hold on anymore. Got the worst catapault of my life because I couldn't keep the evo down.
Went out for 2nd session on the 4.0 when wind had backed off a bit. Glad I didn't take out the 3.5 because realized when we were unrigging that the only thing holding the cap strap on the mast of the 3.5 was the melted plastic burn tip of the strap :oops: :oops:

Amazing nukin day. It feels strange to call a 4.5 a big sail, but it was yesterday. Absolutely gnarly and great. Humongous ramps on the OR side made some mast high jumps inevitable. Still loop free from the pucker factor. Great GORGE day!! May head to Florence Tonight. Likely a Hatch Day today....

Best and longest cook session ever :D ! Started out on the 15M and was good for half an hour till it picked up. Got coaxed by Wullis and Scott to try a kiteloop backroll :roll: ... and did :? ...Biggest air(15'+) and distance(100'+) of my life :P ... followed by the biggest bail of my life... :roll: Got the 12M out after that and it was smooth sailing. Watched it blow all afternoon from home, and got down when it started dropping. Despite the advice of those who could sense the inevitability of such an enterprise, I decided to launch. As it turned out, it was a fun, if brief, jaunt on the water before it turned offshore with the rotors off the upwind cliff. At this point, though, I am just glad to say I had a half hour on the water and kept my kite dry on the landing! Great to see Alex return 3 years after breaking his leg at Cook St!! Welcome Back!!

Hat Trick in August :P scared wind back down when I got my WS gear, almost enough for me w/ full power, got a few longer reaches in this time. Getting better @cycling, reading the water more now to keep planing & less @the kite. Kids on the beach made me so nervous that I quit early tho, flukey wind, parents w/out a clue :idea: take care everyone. Got clipped by Kenny but no damage, paybacks are hell :twisted:

Wildest day I've ever had sailing!! Started out OP on the 4.2 but that got silly when board and rig got ripped out of my hands while waterstarting in front of the island and went end over end like a waterwalker on top of the rollers. Had a few moments of fear thinking that I'd never be able to swim fast enough to retrieve it. Came in with chattery legs and rigged the second hand 3.7. insane. Couldn't hold down the Evo. Borrowed a 62l Maui project and still out of control headed on to rig 3.5 when board and sail disconnected. WAs on a wave and the base popped out. Board surged away on swell and I had a momentary kite session still airborne with just the sail. Luckily wsfish was able to get the board and I had a long swim across the river with the rig. :shock: Almost fried myself on launch - had to eject - turned out a bridle line had been undone, resulting in radical left turning kite. when ejected, did a death-spiral in centre of window 3 full loops prior to hitting beach. Hmm. After that, kiting next to transient orcas was almost boring! Seriously though, being that close to the whales was just awesome, :D massive fin on the male (4.5 feet?), moma and I think a baby too.
Nice to be out for the first time in a long time!

Like the mermaid more with every sail, handled the kook chop just like butter! Good to see Sooke Pete out. I think Kus needed his passport today, must have been near the boarder with how far out he sailed today. Nice sail near a pod of whales to finish off a good warm kook day. :D :D :D

Avery was a random stopover on the way to Roosevelt, but it turned into a great bump/jump sailing site. Armando (AKA Yolanda) and Sonya were there - very Nitinaht feeling site at the West end. Had a long day sailing with Janetfish, Reckless and Jellyfish.... Slept well in spite of the trains after a dinner in the Dalles at the Tiajuana Restaurant...
