Took the day off and had an awesome session with lot's of huge jumps at Pipers for my B-day today. Lot's of wind till 1:30 then it suddenly died. Got caught coming in with no wind and no uphaul!!! But after some swimming and slogging and swimming and slogging made it back in. Started the session alone till Windsurfish and Mike showed up to share some rides. Packed up and the wind kicked in again  Couldn't talk Sharon into a session for her B-day as she was a little intimidated by all the slogging an ... (more)

Last day at Florence. Another sunny day like yesterday.

Kusmobile was in for a mechanical touch up. Nuclear back fires had me worried about a swat team showing up. Cause was determined to be furry little creatures living in the engine. Just what was that Kuisine on Saturday night?

Ended up being a carbon copy of the day before except that it was a bit windier. I rigged the 5.8 to make sure I had enough and had another great day. I was trying to be better with wave selection with some results. Quit ... (more)

Worked all weekend so this was my day to sail Pipers. I was as predicted, 20 solid till about 3. Got there at 10 am and met my freind there. We sailed together until the top of his sail, ( the cap ) came off and he had to swim in for a bit. He they gave me a great one-on-one waterstarting lession. After that the was died down so I went inside the lagoon where the wind seemed more consistant which worked great for ripping on my new JP board. The water was about waist deep, great for doing more waterstarts an ... (more)

Lulls made me a target while the others scooted through the channels with their 100-110L. The forecast was for 35 knots or thereabouts, so I figured I would have to get out early to be in some manageable winds. So I left Kus in town got out early and rigged the 3.7 and the 5.3. Nothing ever does what it is supposed to do....so nothing happened. Put the 5.3 on the 120 litre and went out and played around. Rode some waves but a little scary as there were some big sets coming in and not much manouverability. The wind slowly picked up so it was a bit sloggy going out but nice coming in on the ... (more)

Got up in the am to bathing suit weather and outflow winds. Had just resigned myself to a non-sailing day when Diane suggested that Barb and I join her for a zodiac trip down the lake. Hadn't been past the trail into the Nitinaht Triangle before so I was enthusiastic to see the rest of the lake. Now I'm pumped to do a fall kayak trip launching at the fish camp and exploring the nooks and cranies that lead to the narrows. Kinda disappointing day for sailing. We were waffling about leaving today and decided to stay and sail. It was HOT all morning, and no fog, so, never really materialized. Went out at 3 and mostly slogged back and forth. Very little planing on the 5.4 sail. Lucky to waterstart on the other side with some puffs of wind. Should've figured it would be too light as a lot kites were falling out of the sky today while I was out. Windsurf 24/7 had a better session afterwards, but broke the boom:(

Similar to Sat. Got out on the smaller stuff for a bit but really missed the power of the big sail so I switched back. Pretty fun just ripping back and forth - lots more jibes and tacks. Feeling pretty natural now.

Sandy Beach has officially reached celebrity status. I had two people say to me "you must be Sandy Beach's husband".

Spent most of the morning on the beach upwind with Greg helping me to rig and fly the kite. Wind teased us for a few hours, and looked stronger than it was. Numerous attempts at launching and flying, but too light to keep it up there. Unfortunately, at one point, it hit the trees, and we got it out quickly, but then, after that the bladder popped and burst into many pieces (unpatchable) and the fabric ripped to shreds on the leading edge. Three things I feel thankful for: Greg fixes kites, it wasn't a new ... (more)

First session at the lake since 1991. Beautiful sunny warm day, but kinda marginal for my 5.5, thanks winddoc for the ride and the use of your 100 ltr. board. Could've used a shortie suit in the warm water. :)

Hey when I'm way overpowered on a 3.7 and the swells are huge and breaking 300 meters off the beach I guess it's a good day. At least no *16. Have to get on the water earlier so no Kus shopping missions tomorrow.

It was the East Coast's version of kitefest held by Ocean Rodeo and the Trail shop. Great turn out, and I got to try all the new '09 O.R. gear :D

It was light in the morning then the rain came, but in the afternoon it was great. Super impressed with the '09 14m RISE, I might have to add it to my quiver.

Last minute decision to return to Nitinat for the weekend. Didn't want the dairy bear to leave us with a bad taste of our last adventure to Nitinat.

'Brake down' right after the Mill Bay ferry in Duncan for an hour on the side of the highway. Sam kept saying 'daddy, GO to Nitinat'. Huge thanks to Jellyfish and WR for stopping and assisting, and delaying their sailing time at Nitinat for us.

Camped more upwind with Pastadude and tucked away....kept coolers in the van the WHOLE time, so, no bear visits or s ... (more)

Maui North weather ...... sailed til 7pm. Great to try the 77L Fish. I think I'm going to love this board. Put on the 5.3 Kult, jumped on and almost made a gybe on the first attempt in fairly low winds.

Yogi snooping around in the night for easy treats at the neighbours. He's getting picky ...... opening coolers and not taking anything. We just need to teach him to close the lid when he's finished looking.
