More talk than walk today but at least I got an early hour of 5.8, big ramps and attempted tabletops before the wind pulled way way offshore and we all stood around blabbing for two hours. I went out on the big freestyle board and slogged out to the wind later but I think I was closer to the mainland than the island so I limped back to the beach and packed it in. :? The best is yet to come.

Ouch! Forgot how gnarly IV can be. Very gusty up/down. Made it past shorebreak easily, but fell past the bar and had trouble going - overpowered WS. Got part way round a jibe and catapaulted head-first downwind, glancing the booms off my ribs on the way. Another 10 minutes getting started. Sail back close hauled, still short WoShame. Shoulda gone out on the 5.8 after it dropped a bit, too lazy. Lent my sails to young friend of Joel's who was over-geared. Saw Joel get some HUGE air way downwind near ... (more)

Wanted to go to CB but was scared away by the animated satellite shots- turned out to be a good choice. Willows wasn't exactly epic but not bad 5.6 conditions by mid morning. However there were tons of eel grass in the water making me wish I owned a weed fin. But after 3 1/2 weeks of no sailing I'll take it.

:D Now that is sweet - a warm westerly in the sun at Dallas in October! I should have gone earlier, but couldn't believe my eyes. Got down the water to see Vadardog totally powered on a 12. By the time I was ready, it dropped. But... it came back! Perfectly smooth, steady if mellow for 45 minutes of 14-15, then 20 minutes of 16/17. I will take that over a blustery SE anyday (being that I am a fair weather kiter). The last wind was from a rain cloud that sprinkled a few drops, threatened, then dissapated al ... (more)

First Fall session and it was a good one. Dialled in on the 12m, the last 1/2 hour was well overpowered. Using a new slingshot surefire spreader bar with integrated quick release - most secure I've ever felt. PhDude was doing great on a 5.2. Paul was doing forwards blindfolded. :D

Nice bunch of helis, a few ducks both ways w/shortboard, doesn't like a 6 :? ; odd wavelet lent itself to riding a bit even :P

Spent best of evening wind towing a kiter in, poor timing.

:D :D A fantastic day. Morning coffee with J, Kus (nice Cafe!!!), MF4 and MB. Built slower than yesterday, but still initially a Go/7.5 when I went out. After ~1hr, switched to the 111/7.5, which hit 46.4kmh on a downwind reach. Switched to the 6.0 for ~45 min, but as MF found, it was a wee bit light in places. Back to the 7.5/111, then a few final sets on the Go/7.5. The Night wind came in at ~6PM, but I decided to forgo a last 6.0 session.... :D :D :D

Session 50! On the water by 12:30, already enough power to plane easily, made a bunch of planing gybes in a row  switched to the 89 litre board after an hour - fantastic for about 45 min, then didn't want to float near the beach, switched to big gear - felt like driving a semi after sportscar - but it picked up again for another go on the little board. Dropped off again, so I geared big, but it picked up again after I quit at 4 -- Philipe was racing a bud and practicing duck jibes (he made them too! ... (more)

The wind built more slowly today. Followed Kus out on the water at ~12:30 on the GO140 and Retro7.5. We went up wind to Knob Point and had a blast even though it was a little lite in the bay. By about 1:30 it cranked up a couple of notches so I switched to the Carve 121 and NorthXXX6.2. Loads of fun for the next couple of hours - very steady wind. Didn't miss a jibe for an hour and a half - a record for me! Switched up to the 7.5 on the Carve at about 4:30 when the wind dropped off a little. Nicce co ... (more)

Arrived at 3:00 pm to whitecaps. Was fully powered on the 8.5M for 2 hours... shooting downwind on the lulls... ripping upwind in the gusts, racing with Chris S. and his 9.0M. The water was very flat (no boats) which was great for effortless high speeds on the big stuff. There were 5 sailors and 1 kite (big dude on 18M?) out. Sailed in a shorty wetsuit, not bad for late September at Harrison. :D :D

Back down for a nice reach at 44.7 kmh with MB, then out on the 111 for 2 hours. Finished off the day with the Go/7.5. A nice 7.5 Fall day, with a bit of 6ish wind, but not enough to justify the rigging. :D

Broke the windsurf drought of over a month. :P  Powered on 7.5 starting 1:30, overpowered by bout 3, rigged 5.8 listening to the wind drop in the trees, got a couple of runs before switching back to 7.5. Made lots of planing gybes, slogged through many more. Wished I'd brought my Adagio, but the Astro does jibe forgivingly! The RKA forecast was right on. Made the trip for a 2 day fix. Impressive looking windline rolled down the lake at about noon and I hit the water at 12:30 with a GO140 and Retro7.5. Slogged for a half hour then the wind kicked in for some solid bigger gear sailing. Got a couple of runs in on the 121 and 6.2 but only about 15 min worth. Great late Sept. sailing and it was warm to boot! Lots of friends there Chris and Janet, Vic, KUS, MF4, Pat and Rick, etc. An excellent day. :D :D :D

:) It just doesn't get any better in September.

A super late session (until sunset) with lots of power (2 inches of depower)

    on the 12m 2005 Bronco.

Great swells just outside "Arts" kelp patch!

Wind was great on the outside, absolute crap near shore. Beautiful sunset, and good to be out on the water.

    nice swells
1.80 hours Ocean Rodeo Zen 135
    Ocean Rodeo Bronco 9.0m
:) Decided to self launch with the 9m and it turned out to be the right call.

A gusty powered 9m session. Good swells running today. Went upwind to Muir creek to play in the swells but the wind was just to off/on close to the shore.

The whole Oregon coast is mostly a sand beach with a bit of rock cliff, I was amazed.

The Winds were very gusty compared to what I'm used to here. It gives me a new appreciation for how steady winds are in the Georgia Straight. Experienced a little wave possession aggro from ... (more)

The wind was smoooooth, and easy like sunday morning. not one gust. It even had a little lift. But, truth be told, it was missing some sizzle, some jazz, and was light. Key word : MELLOW. However, it was totally warm (18 at Ogden!), sunny, and lots of friendly faces out there. Soon we will be freezing and looking back at these days fondly...

A planned trip to Tofino fell through, so I beat it back out to NNL for a session of good 7.5/111 (almost 6.0, but not quite...). When things softened at ~330PM, I had a nice plane up to the river on the GO/7.5, and then dinner. The night winds did not materialize, so unrigging in the light this time :) :)
