Arrived to light winds, 8-12kts inside and maybe what looked like 13-15 outside. Was going to rig the 7.0m but decided on the 5.2m Sailworks Flyer as it was supposed to get a bit windier and I was feeling lazy. ha!! Left the 900cm2 front foil on, although had thoughts of changing out to the 1100cm2 but it looked like there was 12-13kts which is what I need for the 5.2m to get foiling. Well, it all worked out pretty well. A couple of lulls and lots of tide and kelp bits in the water but managed to stay foili ... (more)

Actually took 3 tries over the course of the day to get foiling- first 2 were the definition of insanity- think there is enough wind ( ignoring the anemometer saying otherwise) paddle out, drift around, come in. Repeat 4hrs later.
Wind finally did come in late afternoon, and was a good steady SE for some good rides.
Might have to go back to "secret spot" though- was 2 other wingdings in my bay! The Horror!

Whoa that was unexpected awesomeness! Almost right away OP'd on the 4.7 so switched to 4.2 when it amped up some more. Found some beautiful waves deep in udderland, many green roofers and some near the point at the end. Had to call it quits before the wind did! Low tide is the new high!!

A family errand to Nanaimo served as the perfect excuse for a quick Pipers session. Lots of signs of big wind from the SE on the way up. But, I got fooled at the Pipers parking lot where it felt like a 4m. SE felt weird and weakish, gaining me just one foiling run. I switched to a 6m and all was well and even occasionally OP'd as the gusts beyond the light was pushing me around. I played near-shore to ease my foiling solo anxiety. Fun session. Smooth sailing in ma home bay :))
Swift breeze at the beach and caps mid-inlet, worth rigging! A SE in Saanich Inlet produces a light swell in Mill Bay just big enough to ride and that's what we got. Adequately powered with the Cab 6.2/1250cm, the 5.0 would have worked but sailing solo I added a meter of sail for a safe return. A pod of steller sea lions has taken up residence on Tanner Rk, I gave them a wide berth. With Frasermc joining in, I ventured across to Pat Bay hoping to greet any locals fo ... (more)

Japan jet-lag had me snoring through the morning wind; Afternoon shift to maximize walking time with the low tide. Mile Marker almost completely out of the water, and the low tide helped maximize weed exposure.
Timed the switch perfectly to have just not quite enough juice with the flood tide, and when some fun gusts came through, the weeds did their job to help with the fuckery. A shame, as there were some fun little waves breaking onto the outer bar.

With OB 1/2 Marathon cutting out Willows/CP and Super low tide making IV difficult launch/land. So I decided on the drive out to Sidney and Foil in Bazan Bay. Parked just South of Tulista Park along Lochside Dr. as the launch there is pretty easy on super low tide. Other than one big rock that is pretty obvious it's easy come and go and some big jets going over head. As I arrived it was 10-14kts per my windmeter but with the light forecast I decided to rig bigger and go with the smaller foils which worked p ... (more)

With strong (20+) wind making a beach launch dicey, decided to go to the spit fishbowl- after what seemed like weeks away.
Was good to practice some flatwater turns - especially toe-side - I've gotten into the habit of switching feet before the gybe, hence i rarely ever ran toe-side and was way out of practice- especially in gusty conditions.
And when (if) i ever get a tack, will probably be helpful.
For most of the session, was just me and what seemed to be 4000 leaping kiters.

Swiftsure was a cool novelty! It was newfoil day - at least new to me. I paired my newly bought 930 HPS, Docker's old foil, with my big JP Australia board. Luckily there were lots of gusts to help me get lift. Definitely a faster foil. It felt very loose and slippery and is gonna take me lots of time to get used to and get proficient at flying it. Jibes were hit and miss. Mostly miss. I spent more time in the water than usual. I truly need some flat Willows time with the new foil with a nice, steady, 20kt p ... (more)

Late start, little cold and gusty. Made a toe side tack, need to try more heel side tacks. Lots of wingers out, and a lone windsurfer that launched from Clover. Saw a large fin and freaked out for a few seconds but think it was just a seal or sea lion. Good times! Thanks Ross Bay!

A couple of gybes inside, though wobbly. Still a long way to go.

Swiftsure started. Early shift coming in for a break. Owen on the 5 and me on the 3.5. Lasted 30 mins or so and then backed off. Waited for it to come back and returned to the water. This pattern continued most of the day. Over 20 sailors of all kinds out. Fun day!

Waited and waited some more. Saw some rental scooter guys doing wheelies so that was cool. Finally went out and was a bit underpowered but had to try the new board. It feels great. Same volume but 3' narrower. Saw Shaggy nail some gybes that looked a lot like that car that rolled down the hill (hope everyone was ok).

Headed down to Clover early, didn't realize the Swiftsure race was happening, while waiting grabbed some Swiftsure Race Pancakes and realized that food and wind don't really mix well at Clover Pt. By around 1200 all was clear. Nick and Davey_K rocked up we all set up and headed out. A gusty and punchy session but nice to get back on the water. Lots of current around the point today.

This used to be my fast foil but after a few sessions with the ART999 it feels like a slow ride. Wind was not the best again but nice combo 5m with SP860 and 400rear slowly drifting through the holes.
I bet I missed a good RBFC. Definitely would have been a good day to make the drive down. Hope you all had good sessions out there!

A brake check day at the bay! Saw the cam in the morning and got all excited for the wind and boats. Got down after the first fleets were off and...brake check! - wind had dropped significantly. Hung out with the legend that is BWD, wjunk, dano, ang'o etc for about the next 2 hours..patience grasshopper.. finally perked up about 2pm. Some fun swell and easy conditions down low in the bay. Another braking incident around 4pm with someone so obviously overcome with the spectacle that is winging they decided t ... (more)

Started on the 4m and 840 spitfire but decided to try straps on the little board for the first time. Quickly reminded why I hate straps' fell a lot but figured out foot switches and did some jumps both heel side and toe side. I'm sure it feels great to soar but the sacrifice of minor foot movements just feels wrong. Wind dropped and came it to rig the new v4 5.5 Strike, remove foot straps and put the ART1201 on. Again, frustrating but this time because trying to turn that foil takes such a different tac ... (more)

Lots of action at Clover today, what with Swiftsure. I arrived after 12 when it had calmed down and met j_dog for a session. The wind had some lulls but for the most part was decent. It was choppy further out and so I started to do shorter reaches and stayed inside as the wind was good to the shore. During some of the stronger wind pulses I tried some tacks and was astounded when I made two tacks in a row with what I think was excellent form. It felt like magic. I was super chuffed about that and so t ... (more)
